Just bought an 88 4Runner with the 5 speed and 22RE engine. I absolutely love these little Toyotas and it was just too clean of a body to pass up. It doesn't run but it will give me a fun project to build on. I will get pics up asap

I like it! I see the oil and water pumps. What else needs done to get it running?

It needs a new timing chain and guides which also come with it. Other than that, I am not sure. I have a fantastic mechanic that specializes in Toyota and Lexus and I will have him go through it. The great thing is that with the simplicity of the engine and drivetrain it shouldn't be too expensive to get it going
I am pretty pumped about it

NICE. Body looks great. Get a japanese timing chain with the metal guides, avoid your local chinese auto parts dealer.

Looks really clean for an '88.
The 22R/RE is probably one of the most bulletproof engines on the planet.
Should be a fun build.

Might be a good time to put a little more cam in it. Put one in the wifes '88, woke it up a little. I don't recall what it was but it was worth it. That one looks really clean I wouldn't have passed either.

Looks good. How is the gasket for the back slider window? We had an 87 that got dry and scratched.

Oil pump is on the front of the crank. If the front crank seal is leaking, replace the oil pump. Looks good. How is the gasket for the back slider window? We had an 87 that got dry and scratched. I don't even have it in my possession yet, I am going to pick it up next week but I will check that out

Sorry. Didn't see the oil pump in the photo. Looks like you have it covered. Oil pump is on the front of the crank. If the front crank seal is leaking, replace the oil pump. Looks good. That suspension photo is very impressive. I guess steel was cheap in those days so why not use a bunch of it.

Dumbest thing I did was sell my 22R truck. Bought a 94 Toyota xtra cab 4wd truck with 22re a couple of years ago after my 90 with a 3.0 with v6 blew a head gasket. My 15 year old son cant figure out why folks keep asking if its for sale.
