The major problem is that it would shut off most of Europe's gas supply. For now the best thing would be to turn off the gas and electricity to the Crimean Penn. until the invasion troops pull out.
I seem to recall the gas supply into Europe getting disrupted a couple of years back and it caused near panic.
If the Ukraine nationalists threaten the onwards supply of gas, Putin will have the perfect excuse for a full scale military invasion, and Europe will have to sit rather uncomfortably by with a false smile of gratitude on their faces as Putin "secures their supplies" and "restores stability"..
The only thing we can do now is to hunker down and fight Cold War II that Obama, demoncrats, and the LIV's (Low Information Voters) started...
Russia depends on energy production to fund it's economy. We can stick a finger in Russia's eye by lowering energy prices. Oil below $90 per barrel cost Russia BIG time.
Do the following:
Lower energy prices by giving fracking technology to Europe.
Allow the Keystone pipleline to go forward immediately.
Cancel EPA shutdown of Coal fired plants in the US right now.
Supply natural gas to Europe so they don't depend on the FORMER Ukraine for it.
Enact immediate oil policies that put a glut of oil into the market.
And lastly, get rid of the third grader trying to ruin this country. Get rid of the inept and progressive libbie ilk he has placed in high positions within the government and military. Put adults in charge. Tell John Kerry not to bother going to Ukraine tomorrow as he will ony further embarrass all of us.

Imagine that!
The best thing to do is fix our economy and become energy independent.
Amazing how many issues that would resolve...

Revision LB.ua has contacted an activist, to make sure that his social network account has not been hacked. On the issue of our journalist, whether truthful information about the Future, Lebed replied: "do not believe. Yes ".
Now we are trying to verify this information through other sources.

Simply put. WE CAN'T. Thanks to metrosexual moderates and democraps we have no nuts, economic or otherwise. But for starters,a run on the Russian Ruble, trade sanctions, loans, lots of things the WEST could be doing.
Lets add to that taking an earlier post of yours regarding "...I don't believe we have either the means or the justification" as in Russia has more justification than Bush's "Mission Accomplished" which left us wrong in international affairs and broke for the next 50 years.
Charlie, please stop using and confusing your anus with your mouth. I happen to know the Operations Officer on board and how that banner came to being. The "Mission Accomplished" banner had NOTHING TO DO with the President but rather the ship and Air Wing's mission after having kicked ass. It was only the MSM and the rest of you democrap traitors that tried to foist it on Bush. The President had nothing to do with it you [bleep] moron.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
Don't mean to be a smart a**,but who could do that AkMike1?
Who could shut off the spur gas line and electricity to the Crimean Penn? LOL have a look at the map.
I've been in Ukraine many times in the last 10 years and have been to Krim several times.
I've been having log in problems here for some time and am no on here thru Chrome.. So far so Good!
There's quite a few inaccurate parts of this thread based on speculation by good hearted folks that aren't in daily contact with friends and family as I am. With out going back and responding to every one I'll simply state that this is a land grab by Russia. There is no oppression of russian speakers, few if any are in fear of the new government of Ukraine. Russia is stacking the deck in Crimea by passing out new Russian passports to anyone that wants one no matter where they are born. Ukraine's Krim area was given to them in 1954 by Krushchev and had vast areas taken away in order to straighten up some of the borders within the USSR. It's belonged to Ukraine since then. 60 years. Russia leases a naval base there in Stevastopol and pays money to Ukraine. If it actually belonged to Russia as they now claim why would they be the leaseee's and Ukraine be the leaseors and have a contract to show this???

Most everyone seems to be reacting to what happened instead of considering why it happened.
Think about this ...
Putin has a plan. If you think he doesn't ... you're a fool. He has goals and has made a plan to achieve those goals.
Hmmmmmmm?
I thought I addressed this.
He laments Communist Russia and the Soviet Union.
Right now he is placing his chess pieces so that when he is ready, there is little to no resistance. Mostly acceptance even.
It doesn't have to be a resurrection of the Soviet Union. It's not all or nothing.
Putin can flex his muscles, secure Crimea, it's military forces, a warm water port, ... and possibly Ukraine's nuclear sub base, and subs in Sevastopol.
This whole thang ain't none of our phuggin business.
Same NONSENSE spewed back in the 30s with Hitler. Yeah, let's wait until they roll through the Fulda Gap, or better yet when they come ashore here.
Jorge,
I respectfully disagree with your Hitler analogy..
In the 1930's, the Allies did not have nuclear weapons..Putin knows he can only go so far, and is quite happy to keep his ambitions confined to the old USSR. He's very happy to be at the centre of any regional conflict, but knows he can't afford for it to go global.
Does he want to see Russia back as a super power? Of course he does, but at the moment and for the medium term, he simply can't afford this, so will continue to flex his muscles regionally and be a big fish in a small pond.
Regards,
Peter
Pete, I will have to disagree with your assessment. With Putin flexing his muscles in Cuba right now, the Ukraine, and now China saying that they "agree in principle" with Russia moving on the Ukraine, it is more than a regional issue.
He is playing chess and our POS and Kerry are playing checkers.

What more could he ask for without firing a shot?
I don't think that Ukraine has any subs yet alone nuke subs. There are some OLD soviet subs half sunk along some of the arms of the bay at Sevastopol. You should be able to see them with google earth sat. view. So that's out. Check Jane's to confirm. Russia already owns large chunks of sea side property around the Black and Azov seas so the naval port is also a moot point IMO.

What I'm trying to get at is Putin has a plan that includes a beginning, a middle, and an end.
This wasn't a reaction and he didn't send armed forces into Crimea without a plan and a specific goal.
It's a land grab.
The next step is the rest of Ukraine and then possibly head west into the EU.

IF Putin continues as I suspect he will and most of his forces are in the west of Russia. The east is unguarded. There are vast amounts of oil and gas in the Siberian regions.
China has the largest army in the world and needs energy to continue to move ahead in the world..
Add up 2+2 and ??????
A quick trip north for China and the wealth of the kingdom is theirs.
