Not sure how Russia having zero dependency on America equates to collapsing our economy...?

Link Moscow (AFP) - Russia could reduce to zero its economic dependency on the United States if Washington agreed sanctions against Moscow over Ukraine, a Kremlin aide said on Tuesday, warning that the American financial system faced a "crash" if this happened.
"We would find a way not just to reduce our dependency on the United States to zero but to emerge from those sanctions with great benefits for ourselves," said Kremlin economic aide Sergei Glazyev.
He told the RIA Novosti news agency Russia could stop using dollars for international transactions and create its own payment system using its "wonderful trade and economic relations with our partners in the East and South."
Russian firms and banks would also not return loans from American financial institutions, he said.
"An attempt to announce sanctions would end in a crash for the financial system of the United States, which would cause the end of the domination of the United States in the global financial system," he added.
He said that economic sanctions imposed by the European Union would be a "catastrophe" for Europe, saying that Russia could halt gas supplies "which would be beneficial for the Americans" and give the Russian economy a useful "impulse".
Glazyev has long been seen as among the most hawkish of the advisors to President Vladimir Putin but many observers have seen his hand in the apparent radicalisation of policy on Ukraine since the overthrow of president Viktor Yanukovych
Economists have long mocked his apocalyptic and confrontational vision of global economics but also expressed concern that he appears to have grown in authority in recent months.
A high ranking Kremlin source told RIA Novosti that Glazyev was speaking in the capacity of an "academic" and his personal opinion did not reflect the official Kremlin policy.
Glazyev descrived the new Ukrainian authorities as "illegitimate and Russophobic", saying some members of the government were on lists of "terrorist organisations, they are criminals".
"If the authorities remain criminal then I think the people of Ukraine will get rid of them soon," he added
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

The Cold War has heated back up. Russia was just biding time. I wonder what Bush thinks about his buddy Putin now? Putin will accomplish without a shot what Hitler tried by blowing up Europe. The average European is a far left socialist, and they hate "the American way" of capitalism. Nato is dead, and Putin knows that full well. Europe wants Russian energy...needs Russian energy, and they want to see the USA on its knees. Better get used to these incursions by Russia and eventually by China. There are no consequences. We have borrowed ourselves into a corner; we're weak and irresolute; our large body of population won't fight for anything but Black Friday electronics and parking places; and, our leftist media exists as an organ of the money-lender/merchant/Zionists. Feel the draft from behind? Yep, it's open.

Taiwan owns more of our debt then Russia does.
Unless you believe Taiwan can collapse the US economy you must realize this story is complete bunk.
With a 4 month extension of QE we could buy all the bond the Russians have to sell. The Russians would take a hit on the hard currency value in the process, and then what are they going to do with the money? Buy Euros?? Give the money to the other party they are mad at and take ANOTHER hit on the hard currency value as the push up the price of the Euro Bonds and The Euro exchange rate?

My comments were not directly an answer to the collapse in the manner described but to the actual threat in a bigger sense. Several countries can sink us economically if they choose. We don't have Europe as a friend, and we're standing on thin ice.
Borrowing for votes and no stomach for energy independence might sink us. Emasculating our military has eliminated much of our clout. The Western Alliance has decayed into a one-Europe socialism.
We're more vulnerable than we were prior to WWII, and Russia-China know it.

L2S, I just have to disagree.
Prior to WWII we had what, 4, maybe 5 carriers? Due to the Washington Naval Treaties our navy was at no more then a 7:5 ratio to any other country. Our military was NOT the most technically advanced in the world. The Japanese had superior planes, the Germans had superior tanks, and arguably superior planes as well.
In 1938, the Army Air Corps possessed 21k personal, and the entire Army was only 161k strong.
By comparison the German Luftwaffe totaled over 300,000 personal.
To suggest our current relative strength now is weaker then on the eve of WWII is just not an accurate reflection of history.

You need to remember the human factor. Back then we were a unified nation with people of values. We're becoming a conglomeration of diverse selfish interests now. I recognize we were isolationists then, but we lifted our nation out of the ashes of Pearl Harbor and became a fierce animal. After 911 we gave taxpayer money to family victims of the World Trade Center and thought we had done something significant. We might be stronger on paper than before WWII, but we won't have the allies we had after 12/07/1941. Our enemies know this. However, your point is well taken.

In Feb 1991 we neutralized the worlds 4th largest military in 30 days without instituting a draft.
As for WWII allies, do you mean France who lasted for all of 6 weeks against the Germans? Poland did even worse, lasting all of 2 weeks, and the Ukraine tried to join the Germans until they realized they were just as bad, if not worse than Stalin.
Maybe Neville Chamberlain who wasn't replaced by Churchill until days before the German invasion of France in May of 1940?
You can't mean Japan or Italy.
By these great allies, are you referring to the Chinese Nationalist fighting against Japan, or STALIN the Russian Communist fighting against Germany, who was actually allied with German until Hitler attacked them during the June of 1941...
So help me, what Great pre-dawn WWII allies are you referring to??

There are a few islands that japan has right now that China wants back. Japan took over these islands during WWII. If nothing is done with Russia, China will be taking back these islands within the end of this year. Just watch. No one fears the US anymore. That was what Obama wanted with his CHANGE.

You fellows are taking his comments FAR to seriously.

I don't profess to know a lot about international politics and I'm not as old and wise as most here. But, I'm old enough to remember the Cold War. My thoughts can be summed up by two observations in my lifetime.
1. Eight years of peace through strength under Reagan and a year later the Berlin Wall came down.
2. Eight years of peace through appeasement under Clinton and a year later the Twin Towers came down.
