I decided to try some 70g. Nosler BT in my .243 a couple of days ago for those coyotes that refuse to come in close and stay out there when it's windy and laugh at you.
I found some 760 powder and loaded up 50 and tested them out with the chronograph. Accuracy was very good and velocity was at/around 3700fps which makes for a punishing load.
Now just to find some yotes that aren't real smart. 3700 out of a .243 seems high. I love the 70 gr BT's, but have yet to find a load with any powder that will hit that kind of speed. Maybe he is shooting them at 12000 ft above sea level.

I stopped at 3500 with my 70gr BTs. Shot great. It looks like the Hodgdon and Nosler manuals say you can get around 3600 so maybe it's possible.... Not sure how you get 51grs of powder in a 243 case though as Hodgdon states.

I am trying out a new .243 Kimber Montana. I already have some IMR 4350 that I might as well start with. Can anybody here recommend some loads? Thanks.

I found one!!! 50.5g 760 and a 70g NBT out of a Rem CDL 24" barrel over a RCBS chronograph. Another 55g load with the .243 was 47.5g of Varget with the NBT same gun and same chronograph was 4050fps great on rockchucks, coyotes, jackrabbits and mule deer. Varget is getting hard to find lately so I'm trying out IMR 4064 with the 55g NBT using 45.5g of powder and I'll see what the chronograph produces. Last time out I didn't have the chrony but the accuracy was great with this load and no signs of pressure and may be a contender to replace that Varget load.

Before I saw Nosler Data on it, I worked up a load for the 55 BTip after buying about 500 of them at the Shooters Pro Shop when over in Bend...on a special...like !0 cents each...
in a Remington 243, with a 22 inch factory barrel, I used a charge worked up from 44 grains of H 380 to 50.. without pressure problems and got 4000 fps with a standard rifle primer...
use the same charge with the 60 grain Sierra HP...
Nosler listed the same MV with 53 grains of H 380... how they got the extra 3 grains in there I have no idea... at 50 grains, this case wouldn't take one more kernel of powder...
and of course the load was compressed...
my usual load is ligther tho...
oscillating between 30 grains of RL 7 or 4198, or SR 4759... or 22 grains of Blue Dot ( or less.. like 20 grains) for the 3000 fps MV range...
use the same loads with the 58 grain V Max, 60 grain HP Sierra and 65 grain V Max... ( when they start making it again)

I don't have any manuals with me right now but that seems like its about 4 grains over max. I know for certain you're over pressure if you are getting 3700 with a 70 gr BT. That's very comfortably in .240 Weatherby territory.

Seafire - back when I didn't know any better I just followed the Nosler manual for those 55 gr. boogers. I was also using H380 and worked up to the 53 gr (no, I'm not sure how I fit it all in there, but I remember it crunched when I seated the bullet). Those loads shot over 4000 fps and into 3/4" groups at 100 yds. I made my longest kill ever with that load with a 4x Tasco scope and a predator that shall remain nameless, but not much bigger than a prairie dog. 642 paces (pre-LRF days), one hole through the center. Brass only lasted two loadings. Like I said, back when I didn't know any better...

Nah, I'm 34 now. I'm in my prime! Seriously, I was in high school, following the manuals and dad's advice. And no one told me that I couldn't hit a two-legged 16" predator at 642 yds with a Tasco World Class 4x32 scope mounted up...
