Mike

No idea. If you really want to know what that stamp is, pull the butt stock off the receiver. It should be stamped on the side of the tang. This stamp usually shows better as the tang side provides a flat surface to stamp.

Pulling the buttstock has its risks. Pull it straight back from the receiver, don't twist it. Once off you can see how the rifle mechanism works. Everything is right there.

COULD BE A (1A)
Seen (A) Before and 2 Digit and a A. But Never a (1A)

As Steve99 Said Pull Butt Stock Off.

Whats Your Serial Range? If Fall in low 500,000 is Probably a 1949 Year Of Mfg.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... they sure put most of the impression on the left side (the beginning) of the stamp they used to make the Lever Boss Code.

The left side of the OVAL around the LBC made that initial deep impression on the left side of your rifle's partial LBC... and after looking through my extensive LBCs in different years, I can only come up with what it might possibly be.

My best guess is that it could be Inspector #11 who seemed to do a good many of the LBCs in 1958 and 1959 (see bold face excerpts below) since the 2nd vertical line might be a partial impression of the 2nd digit of his #11 Inspector's number. But without the letter indicating the year of manufacture, it's anyone's guess.

J= 1958: 950xxx, 9494xx (?J) 9512xx(J), 955xxx(11J), 95794x (J), 95896x(9J)

K= 1959: 9593XX(9K), 9610XX(K), 9613XX(11K), 9637xx, 961731, 963837(11K), 964xxx, 96556x, 9677XX(8K),

Sorry I can't be of more help... frown

On the tang:
All the way in the front in a circle: either 10K or 20K, very small! The first digit is into the radius.
Near the back: L 8 F
Underside of the butt plate: F 37

So, '59? '60?

I posted more pictures here. I tried to get a shot of the case colors on the lever, but my ipad didn't do a very good job. They are very dark.
I used a borescope for the lever boss code picture.

Thank you for the direction!

The K is your date code, the number is an inspector number we think. So 1959. A premil. A nice place to be.

The other coded markings are assembly codes, designed to make sure fitted parts stay together. Looks like it wasn't always adhered to. I wouldn't worry too much about those codes not matching with each other if the rifle looks right.

Thanks for all the help!

Steve,
I don't see any mismatches. The '10K' and 'L8F' are on the same piece, and the rifle is an F model. The 'F 37' on the butt plate match to the rifle model 'F' and the last two digits of the serial number.

Ron,
Why the sad face? Looks to me like your S/N range was spot on.

Thanks all,
Michael B.
