Buddy of mine who is computer illiterate inherited a Model 1905 MS in 9x56. Original Full stock with metal butplate/ammo compartment, Double set trigger, express site, perfect bore, tight action.. Really nice piece with 4 digit seriel #. he is wondering what it might be worth.. I saw one on GB listed for $1800 but no bids so not sure if that is a realistic price.. Any info or links with more details would be great. Thanks

Your buddy should contact me immediately so I can remove the filthy thing from his house before it contaminates everything in sight! I will even do it for free...

Seriously, $1800 is probably a bit steep, but he might get a few nibbles at somewhere around 2/3 that figure.

1800 is more than realistic... for the guy who collects steyr.
is just a short list of potential buyers.
Depending in finish and wood condition could be up to 2500.

Great gun, the caliber really is the limit on the value. Ammo, bras and even dies are hard to come buy. As the bullets are .356 not .358 even bullets can be an issue. I would start on gunbroker at 1k and see where it goes.

It looks like a timewarp! Has it been redone? Doesn't look it... I'm totally wagging here at $2000-$2500 on GB.

Very nice and original ! These are hard to find unmolested. If all numbers match.... 2,000 is your start point. Most of these were tapped for scope mounts. This is a collectors dream. Brass is easily formed from 8x57 case. A metric 358 Winchester.

Ringworm not sure what your comment means, maybe you have experience with such things hurting, but I as a hetrosexual male do not.

I was saying start at 1k, with a higher reserve of course, just to get some bidding going. A lower starting price often generates more bids.

I have no interest in the gun.

Good luck with the sale.

If it were mine, I would set reserve at 2000.00. If the stock has not been refinished, no cracks, brite bore its what collectors want. 1905's are not real common. 95 % of these have claw mount bases or some sort of side mount for scope, why that does not kill the value it is not as valuble as one without.

What would your buddy take for this? A question I would like for you to ask him and post here. You never know, and gunbroker as well.

Meaning that at the point your head entered your azz something likely hurt.
Even suggestions that rifle should list for 1000 shows your lack of knowledge about steyr, your attempt to get it cheap, or some foolhardy display of how little money means to you.

I don't care what the book says. I've seen enough old steyr to know the rarity of one they age, that caliber, that condition and unmolested.
It would be akin to a 1971 Riviera with 6k original miles in garaged condition.
might not be your choice of ride but it doesn't diminish the inherent value.
if I had 2500 I wouldn't think twice about making an offer.

Those are quite possibly the fines production rifle in history.. Won't ever see craftsmanship Like that again. I am on the hunt for one in 7x 57 and am willing to pay around 1200 or so. But I'm a cheap sob and they usually bring more than that. I'm not a colector per say so don't need perfict. But rather have a shooter.
Price depends on condition and rarity the one you Speak of should go in the 2 k range I would thing.

Agree that they are one of the finest rifles ever made. I'm fortunate to own a mint 1903 M/S Mannlicher with DST and perfect in all aspects. From the pics of the 1905 shown, it's very hard to judge the overall condition of it to place it's true value; as an example, the internal rotary magazine looks blued in the pic. Also it would be good to see the right side of the action to see if the straw parts are original or blued (should be strawed).
