I am looking for a high quality pair of woods binos, something in the 7x30 range and relatively light and compact. my field binoculars are swarovski 10x42 EL's so I have gotten spoiled on really good glass. I want my compacts to be of similar quality but I'm looking to stay under 1000 bucks, well under if possible. any help would be appreciated.

It would be our pleasure to discuss this with you. 7x's are tough as not too many 7x30/32's really exist

I've found that the 6X stuff works alot better than many would think. Heck, I've found my 6X30 Leupold Yosemites quite useful in really open country.
I've found the 6X32 Katmai by Leupold to be quite sharp. E

Include the Vortex Viper HD 6x32s in your lineup. Doug has demos at $450.

I used an inexpensive pair of Leupold Yosemite 8x30s last year and liked them enough to buy each of my kids a pair. For under $100 them seem like a good buy. I think that I paid CDNN about $80 per pair in an orange camo color.

IIRC, Mule Deer made a strong pitch for the Yosemite 6x30s within the past six (6) months and he is widely regarded as something of an expert in this area, even if he doesn't appear to be an optics snob.

There are not all that many 6x and 7x options with a 30 or 32 objective as it is not an overly popular size.
IMO, the finest option would be the Vortex Viper HD 6x32. The Meopro 6.5x32 is a good glass but not in the same league, especially when you're accustomed to the Swarovski's

I just went in that direction during hunting seasons and am very glad I did. My Minox 6.5X32 went in for service and wanted another 6-6.5 called cameraland and got the Meopta. One of my better choices.

The Minox jumped 20+ feet out of a tree stand and landed on the only rock in 20 feet, needless to say it was a bit tough on them. I sent them back to Minox and they completely went through them and look and perform like new (thanks Minox Customer Service)

The Moepta 6.5X32 are lightyears ahead of their price point.

Eye relief is awesome on the Vipers. I have them and love them. So easy on the eyes

Can't comment on the Meopros

You might look into the Celestron Granite 7x32. I just got a set of Eagle Optics Ranger ED 8x32 which are identical to the Vortex Talons from Eagle Optics, they are light at 19 1/2 ounces and not bulky ar all. They were $320 with free shipping if they aren't sold out yet. They handle great and the optics look excellent to me, tremendously better than the Pentax DCF MP 8x28s I have used for several years.

I have a set of 7x50 Swaro binocs, the older ones, not EL, etc. Those things have super sharp glass and focus. They're great in low light and can "see" into brush as one advances the focus.

They're sorta heavy for toting around, but great for a box stand.
