I am looking for a scope for a 22LR or general use - plinking, basic target practice, maybe a tree rat or two. It is a Remington 597. I have kind of narrowed it down to the following:

Nikon P-22 with BDC 2-7x32. Pretty much everywhere I look it gets good feedback and is running about a bill and 1/2.

Bushnell AR BDC 2-7x32. Gets good feedback but I think it is a newer scope so I think there is less out there. It is about a bill and 1/4.

Do any of you have any input on these two scopes? Is the Nikon worth a 1/4 bill more? Any thoughts which one for my general purpose 22LR?

Thanks for the input. It is slightly cheaper too! Hopefully, I will get a few other folks input.

Someone else mentioned the Weaver Rimfire Series 2.5-7x28 which is similar in price to the Nikon but has your basic dual X vs the BDC. Thought I would through it up here with the Nikon P-22 and the Bushnell AR

I have the Bushnell version...If I was going to buy another one, I'd go with the Nikon... I am disappointed in the glass on the Bushnell...

If you could like without the BDC and live with the plain old duplex reticle, I'd definitely go with the Weaver...

I have two of them, both mounted on lever action 30/30s... clear glass and they are well balanced on top of the 30/30 lever actions... one is a Model 94 Legacy with a 26 inch barrel and the other was an early Marlin 336 Stainless...

one was mounted on a Model 70 in 30/06 for about 5 years beforehand... it is never hiccuped a bit...

Seafire. that is what I was wondering. I know in scopes you kind of get what you pay for and the fact the Bushnell is atleast 25 buck cheaper made me question the glass quality. I could live without the BDC - but was wondering if the 28mm objective on the Weaver 2-7 would make it less bright than the Nikon.

Well my eye sight isn't the greatest for stuff like 'brightness'... I just get what I can see thru and know that has a reputation for holding up...I own a batch of Tascos even because I can see thru them...

for my eyes tho, those 2.5 x 7 Weavers, even with the 28mm objective, are definitely clear enough for me...I use to have no problem wacking steel at 300 and 400 yds with it mounted on top a Model 70 30/06....when set on 2.5 to 4 power...

I use to have a straight 4 power Weaver 22 scope ( which the factory told me the mechanics are built to the same specs as the K and V series)...that was a definitely well balanced handy scope... but I gave it to a friend in need who had no money..
around here there are a lot of guys like that it seems...

Those Weaver rimfires are real sleepers for the value they offer..

Roger that. Now that I am in my fifties me eyes have gone down hill a bit. As far as the 28MM I have read that the older you are the less your eyes will dilate - younger folks might dilate to 7mm but as we age me may only open to 5mm. In which case I could not even see the advantage that the 32mm would give me. Really appreciate your insight.
