A few years ago I felt the need for a versatile gun to use as a kit and carry gun. I had hunting guns, HD guns, a few guns that I could carry if need be but none that I felt could do a lot of things really well. Decided I wanted a gun about the size/feel of my birdshead .32 Single Six but DA and a shorter barrel. Toyed with the idea of a .380 like the Bersa's or Walther's but in my heart I wanted a 3" J-frame. Well as stated that was a few years ago and in many gun shops and gun shows I had never seen one other than the net. Off to the gun show this weekend, resigned to a .380. Table after table, trying to find the best deal, couple more tables to go when......... It's not mint. Nice blueing but with some holster wear. $440 plus tax. The best thing was when we took it shooting. palm size groups at 15 yards offhand with cheap (relative) 130gr FMJ. The 40 yard steel plate wasn't much of a problem at all. It was a good day!

Those are nice...I have seen a few stainless 3" Model 60s with the plain sights also...
One of my favorite woods guns is the 3" Model 60-10 with adjustable sights.
Was looking on GunBroker this morning and there are several of the 60-4 3" with adjustable sights in .38 Special....prices are all over the lace but start at $500... Usually there isn't even one for sale.
Nice find...Bob

Nice. Steel or aluminum frame? I've got the aluminum frame version. Lower right.

You "Done Good". The little 3 inch j frames shoot so much better than the 2 inchers do for me. I've owned a couple of them with the pencil barrel, but never a heavy barrel like yours. Seems I remember reading that the NYPD used to issue those to meter maids or some such back in the day. regardless, you got yourself a nice shooter there, and I think it will work perfectly as a kit and carry gun. Congratulations, CT

Awesome. The 3" are the best barrel length for them, period.

Agreed, for belt carry. For pocket carry (something I very rarely do), the two inch is king.

1" of barrel ain't going to matter for belt carry. Not even for pocket carry for some.

The only drawback I've seen with them is the lack of gunleather. Holsters are laying in the ditch between here and town that will fit a 2 inch J frame Smith, but unless you don't mind the muzzle poking through, they are a little harder to find for a 3 inch model.
I bought my Dad a 3 inch model 30 some years back. It took awhile perusing guns shows and the holster boxes at various shops before I came up with a holster for him.

My mom carries one just like that.
My dad bought it back in the early 70's to shoot somebody with,..but he got over it and it just kind of hung out in the sock drawer.
Now mom has it.
