Patrick, if you want to find out the easy way and a 7x57 cartridge goes in just fine, then fire it. The fired case will pretty much answer the AI question. If P Jaeger in Jenkintown built it, it is a fine piece. Glad you have it and HOPE is is a straight 7x57 and not AI messed up.

Having one in an Ackley cartridge is like icing on the cake, whether it is to shoot or to fondle.

I took Paul's comment to mean that someone had buggered up the chamber by attempting to AI it, not that AI is ruining a rifle.
YMMV

Ed, Just a note on the food. I will be bringing some Cayenne peppers, canned by me, and some Jalapeno relish, bought. Some of Y'all will have had both at other gatherings. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

Great, Miles! I also have a quart of home made sweet green tomato relish.

Should I notify the Sheriff that we will be shooting artillery and ignore the neighbor's calls? Ed

I do know where there's a Steyr single shot for sale. Last I knew he wanted $3k for it. Obviously, it would fit right in for a single shot collector

And "messed up" is your way of thinking. Well, some guys just seem to get touchy about the AIs - touchy enough to characterize another guy's thought process even if they don't know about it. I hope that your comments were in jest. Whether or not you understood what I intended, and just in case you are serious with your statements, you seem fairly quick on the BS trigger. I said nothing about inferiority or superiority. No matter what "they" say, the term "improved" yields no result one way or the other - it is a label used by the designer. Somewhere back there I managed to grasp the theory and design principles associated with the AI. Did you ever have a quiet personal conversation with Ackley on the subject of his various "improvements"? There is more than one way to mess up a finely made rifle.

If some unknown hack rechambered it without re-stamping the barrel, then indeed that would be a big disappointment. The numbnuts who rebarreled my XP-100 pulled that stunt, and I will have to cast its chamber before I shoot it The Mauser barrel is clearly marked plain 7x57, and on its underside is numbered to match the action, with Jaeger's mark. Safe bet it didn't leave Jaeger's shop mismarked. Done a few wildcats over the years, somehow never an AI. Don't object to the concept, but I sure hope a very rare rifle didn't get altered.

Patrick, the few visits we made to the Jaeger place in Jenkintown were memorable, and that looks like a fine piece of gunsmithing. I share your hope.
