A thug in central Florida wont be committing any more violent crimes against the people in his community.
Hes dead.
Early Monday morning, Mitchell Large, a man with a history of violent criminal behavior attempted to break in to a family home in Winter Haven, Florida. It was his bad luck that he chose the house he did, because just about everyone who lived there was home and they were all armed.
Around 7:00 A.M. Monday morning three of the four family members woke when they heard someone moving around on their back porch. Father Luis Pena and his wife and son all armed themselves when they realized they had an uninvited guest. About that time, Mitchell Large began his attempts at entering the residence. The family fired a warning shot or two above the door and warned Large that they were home and they were armed.
He entered anyway.
"It appears at least two of the family members fired in defense of themselves and their property," said Winter Haven police Chief Chief Hester...
"Whether he was armed or not armed, when he failed to retreat they certainly had a right, if it turns out to be this way, would have a right - to defend themselves" said Chief Hester. For every terrible tragedy like the shooting at Fort Hood, there are several situations like this where law abiding citizens defend themselves from criminals who would rob, beat and even murder them, if not for the equality that firearms offer. As well-meaning as the police may be, they cannot be everywhere at once and often their job is to investigate crime that has already happened. If more law abiding citizens armed themselves, more police investigations would go like this one where the police are investigating the death of a criminal and not the death of an innocent.
"You know, I hate that a man was shot, and I hate that he died," added neighbor Denver Kemp, "but you know you've got to take a stand against people that are doing this stuff."
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

seems like half the state is armed these days. Bad time to be doing home invasions.

Sad that a life was lost, but it is a nice warm family story that the good guys came out on top.

Absolutely right. He invaded, they took care of it. Maybe the next thief will think twice.

The guy was there to hurt/kill them! The guy was aware they were awake, they warned him verbally and fired 1 or more warning shots, and yet still continued to enter the premise. Yeah he was there to hurt them. Glad he is having a dirt nap, he needed it!

Had a similar incident at work last summer. A couple black hoodrats tried to force their way into a hotel room. All four occupants were armed and two opened fire.
I was pissed cuz they didn't hit anyone but I bet the bruhs shat their pants.

I can think of many things in life that are truly sad, but the death of that criminal thug -- and others just like him --isn't one of them.
