I was in to see my heart specialist today, and he has deemed me healthy enough to return to work, with no restrictions, and has cancelled my driving restrictions. I still have to wear the defibrillator, and he is adjusting my meds to further improve my heart function.
This has been a tough go for me and my family here at home. I have learned a lot about what "family" really means by they outpouring of concern and support I got here on the 'Fire. Thank you one and all for your kind comments. I hope the day comes when I get a chance to meet as many of our members as I can and personally show my gratitude.
I'll be back to work Monday, bright and early, and I can't wait. I've never been good at just sitting around, and it's been weighing heavily on me that I've been drawning pay for not working. I've been lucky to have good benefits that took care of my family when I needed it.
Once again, many thanks folks!

That's good news for sure! Don't over do it - leave the 19 yr old twins alone for a while.

That's good hearing, GG. As for being good at sitting around age will take care of that and you'll learn to love it.

Drink plenty of water. If you have an auto defibrillator, and you strain too hard takin' a dump, it'll knock your azz off the toilet. Not a good way to start the day.

GG, Glad to hear it old friend. Remember, you do have a place here in Alabama where you can lay your weary head and get away from the snow up there. You and yours are welcome anytime! Do well!

No it's not internal. It's called a Life Vest. I wear this thing that kind looks like a vest turned around backwards. There's a set of sensors that go roughly across the bottom of my rib cage, and two big sensors that straddle my spine right below my shoulder blades. I wear a battery pack on a strap which connects to the vest. Should my heart go out of rythm, the battery pack gongs and alerts everyone to not move away from me, and I would be shocked. It has a control button I could use for a false alarm, but it does function automaticlly otherwise in case I lose consciousness.

Geeze! That's about as good as it gets. Really fast. Good job. In the hospital, my heart function was at 11% pumping capacity. Normal is 55-60%. With the meds, diet, and exercise, I've improved to 35%, which was enough for the doc to sign off on my return to work. Luckily for me, I don't do anything physical at work-I'm an optician/vision center manager. Can't wait to get back in my office again!

ked As much as anything else, I'm looking forward to being able to drive again. Man, it sucks being pinned down to the house or having to rely on others to get to appointments and such.
