I'm looking for suggestions or recommendations on scoping a 6 1/4 to 6 1/2 lb. 260 AI and 243 AI.

I expect to shoot steel to 6-700 yds and game to 600. I tend to like more X's with my old man eyes.

Budget to $700

Thanks in advance.

6MMWASP,

With what you posted I would go with something like a 2 1/2-16X. Your rifle would still be less than eight pounds with this scope. I put a 5-25X eighteen ounce scope on my five pound nine ounce rifle and it balances very nicely.

I have to say -I could put a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14-44 on every rifle I own and each rifle would be fine with that scope.
Personally I've seen very few instances when I actually use anything under 4-5-6X ,I always crank a 3x9 up same with 2x8's etc..I have a 1.75x6-36 bushnell 4200 great scope -2 2x8 monarchs and a new rimfire weaver scope 3x9-32 I only have those because of their size. If they were 4.5x14 I'd like them even better.

Pick up one of the SWFA SS 3-9 scopes. Mil/Mil setup, and they are on sale through tomorrow. If you don't like the scope, I'll buy it from you!

First trip at 500 with the new ( Used ) 4.5-14 Tactical.

Sighted in about 1.25" high at 100. Chronographed 123 SST's at 2930 and ran those numbers through the Berger Ballistic calculator.

Here are the first 3 shots. I adjusted 1 moa up and 1 moa right and the next 3 went into a group just shy of 4", centered on the 12" plate.

I ran it back to 200 and shot a rock and it hit where I expected so I adjusted back to the 500 and the next 2 shots didn't open up the 4" group any.

I didn't prove that the Leupold is going to track any more than that one time but it shows promice.
