Thought I'd ask here due to largest audience..

Customer called - they have an old Marlin model 1893 w/octagon barrel and chambered in .38-55..

That rifle doesn't even show up in the blue book. And I've not heard of a .38-55. She says it's in quite good condition and wondered what it's worth. Thought I'd ask here - because I have NO idea..

Lemme have what ya got..

The 1893 was the forerunner to the 336. It was a competitor to the 1894 Winchester and was chambered in similar popular chamberings. The 38-55 was the biggest caliber of the 1893 IIRC.

.38-55s in classic lever actions are pure gold, right now. I have been trying to find one in decent condition (that I can afford) for about twenty years. Saw a pretty poor octagon-barreled 1894 at Cabelas over in Texas last weekend for $1,800 plus!
