South St Louis/Fenton received a new Gander Mountain retail in the last couple weeks.

My wife and I have buisness in STL today (she is having surgery) so on the way to our overnight hotel stay we hit all the usual gun stores I enjoy.

Smitty's
Dunns
Denny Dennis
Cabelss
Graffs
Bass Pro

But we didn't leave out the new kid Gander Mountain

First trip might possibly be the last as prices are steep to say the least.

$400 Ruger Americans and BTW they did have 22LR with a price tag of anywhere from $8 for 50 subsonic to $10 for standard velocity

No taxidermy on the walls anywhere in the store.

Sounds just like all the other Gander Mountain stores I've visited.

Hope your wifes' surgery goes well.

Gander Mountain has always high priced, only time I have ever bought from them is when there was a sale going.

Good luck to your wife, I'll say a prayer for her.

Gander mountain was one of the cheaper places to order stuff in the 70s....

Yep as my Michigander brethren have pointed out, Gander never don't rape.

I hate em and don't even visit, but have purchased stuff there on sale.

I hope your wife's surgery goes well.

They are catering to a logo now.

Our local store dropped all their reloading supplies.

Seriously, WTF?

I picked up 200 rounds of target grade Remington stuff yesterday at Wal-Mart for $17.00. First .22 ammo I've found anywhere for a few weeks. We've got a Slander Mtn. which gets ammo in on Thursdays, but I refuse to go stand in that zoo-like atmosphere for the doors to open and the mad rush to ensue. We also have a Mill's Fleet Farm, and I actually prefer the way they do it. Their ammo comes in sporadically, never on a given day or given time, and they won't tell anyone what they have coming. It's luck of the draw that you happen to be there when it hits the floor. Levels the playing field some. Sometimes I luck out and some times I don't. I'm seeing lots more 9mm, .40 cal, and .223 on the shelves now, but .22 is still tough to find.

Used to be great for my mail order needs (20 years ago)

They suck now

They seem to go out of their way hire uninformed jerkwads. However I will say that Dicks picks up the dumbasses that get fired from Gander Mountain and Burger King.

Like slumlord, for me, Gander Mountain is in next to last place with Dick's in the cellar.

The only joy I get from Dick's is that the head of it has to be called "The Dickhead", and rightly so.

I wont bore with the details, but I had a look behind the curtain one time at Gander so to speak and in this one circumstance they absolutely set out to gouge people and then lied about it. Only 1 occurrence, but that was my experience. I wont even go in there anymore.

On a better note, I was in Scheels the other day and was actually fairly impressed!

Ted,
Best of luck to your wife.

And, yes, Gander Mountain sucks.

I found piles of 223 at fleet last weekend. They now have more and better reloading gear than GM as well.

Gander is becoming a camping store that sell fishing tackle and some guns. REALLY, REALLY, high priced guns.

Thats funny. A salesman at GM tried to convince me that .257 roberts would work fine in my vintage weatherby

Scheels is bad ass. I blew 200 there on Saturday for turkey stuff and camo for my daughter. The lady friend and I spent 3 hours in there. She also picked out a Browning BPS for a grouse swatter. She just passed hunters safety and is ready!

Most "outdoors" stores evolve into clothing stores.
