a friend of mine just bought a Ruger #1 with erial number 48x. I have heard that the first 500 or so Ruger number 1's were all hand fitted... is there anything else about them that are a little different...
it does have the serial number put on the block in electric pencil as well....
30-06 btw
any help would be appreciated.

The worst thing ever to happen to cops is the personal video recorder... Now people can see the truth
All non-prefix No. 1s were essentially "hand-fitted", not just the first 500. If you ever get a chance to do a side by side comparison between an early No. 1 and one about 20 or more years younger, the differences will be obvious.
And a lot more Details such as complete SN, Barrel Length, Sights or no sights, type of ForeArm ie Alex Henry or Beavertail, Checkering on F/A ie two or three panel,Rings ie Vertical or Horizontal plus Photo's of all aspects of Rifle.
