I think the Montana is bigger than what I want but I guess it operates similarly to the more reasonable sized Oregons. I looked at the Monterra but it is NOT geared to hunters but rather tree huggers.

EH, How does the map software work in the Nuvi? I have a Nuvi as well, (can't remember the model just now, maybe 2590?) Anyway when I asked over on the GPS forum about putting the software on, some said it probably wouldn't work very well. I need to get rid of my Etrex and get one I can load the map software onto.

EH, you ever treated anybody for hypothermia? Ever put anybody in a bodybag? That is why I caution folks not to rely on "gizmos" to stay terrain oriented. It's like jumping without a reserve. Naw I've never ventured out of the house......never said I didn't have a backup. But generally I don't need wither as I am aware of my surroundings. Take your eggspurt attitude and check it at the door on the way out ok? I have yet to see you make a positive post on this site yet. I have seen you get your azz handed to you on a regular basis for your general asinine demeanor though.

Yes, the Montana is bigger & I don't like that aspect, but the resolution on the screen is far better than the Oregon's & it's also much better for visibility in sunlight............if you are willing to spend the money & put up with the size. I've also tried TOPO's on a couple of different phones & while they do get the job done, the usability & features just don't compare to a dedicated GPS, IMO. MM

Does you model have a port for a micro SD card? On mine I have the Garmin base map for the lower 48 states in the units memory. I have the http://www.huntinggpsmaps.com/ for Wyoming loaded onto the micro SD card. It actually acts as an overlay on the Garmin base map. You can tap the screen to bring up the landowership on each section.

Dennis, I managed to find a serial to USB adapter cable a while back (I had the same issue) but they are no longer made. You might scan the 'bay for one.
I also have (somewhere) a plug-in card with two serial ports that you could install in your 'pooter to do the transfer. I'd send it to you if you want.

Roger Maris was an outfielder first baseman (IIRC) and slugger- not a pitcher.

I think TaK's world is chock full of false memories. Maris as pitcher is only one such.

EH, My Nuvi is box stock. It does have the SD port. If you go here you should be able to make sure yours is compatible, I am betting it is. http://www.huntinggpsmaps.com/gps-compatibility

Bought an Oregon with a camera for $218 on sale. Figured I would give it a run and see what I think. Will have to figure out the cable issue and try and download my waypoints to my computer (or get someone else to do it) and then onto the new one. This is $150 less than I paid for my Etrex

Dennis you probably already thought of this, but you might be able to find a 'serial to usb' adapter cable at Fry's Electronics.

The Oregon 450t is pretty nice. Takes a micro sd card. Has topo maps. Usb cable to connect to the computer.

I have the garmin Oregon 450 and find it very useful. I wouldn't mind a bigger screen that is more visible in sunlight but it is o.k. The Hunting GPS Maps are very useful and easy to install w/ Garmin's Basecamp. Technically I am a troglodyte but I am learning. I would guess that most guys here use a map and compass as well as GPS. So I have to know... do you use a slide rule too? Nope, way too ignorant. I don't get lost in the woods though.
