Ok I know this one has prolly been beat to death. But I kinda missed that train. But I'm gonna mail out a VX-1 4-12x40 that sits on a Ruger #1 in 22-250. I do NOT hunt with this rifle, and rarely even shoot it. It is too nice to hunt with, and too sweet to sell. It just "is". That said, it seems the perfect candidate to test drive a CDS on. I like to decide for myself first hand what I like and don't like, and what sucks and what doesn't. The problem here, is that a true test drive may not incur. As in usage under hunting conditions to see if dial turns inadvertently. I almost went with a CDS on one of my VX2 3-9x40s (on my Win 88) that I actually hunt with. Soooooo, humor me Any new thoughts on CDS dials after more here have experience with them? Likes? Dislikes? Thanks........

I may be an outlier on this, but I love them.
I have 2 VX3 4.5-14 x40 (one a SF AO, the other standard) one on a 5.56 SPR the other on a 338 win Mag. Work like a champ and as advertised.
I have never had a problem with them, they are repeatable and if I do my part, first round hits everytime.

Do they ever move on you when hunting? This is what some say, and my biggest concern...

Haven't yet. Besides, if they do, before you shoot in most situations, you are going to set the distance with the dial anyway. If you want a scope that is always set to one distance, buy a standard one. I like the ability to get one shot hits at various distances. Simple enough, laser the target, set the distance, do your part and they have always worked for me. As I get more funds, I am going to convert all of mine over. I have been shooting rock chuck across the length of a box canyon for 375 to 75 yards from a prone position on a still wind day with 55gr V-Max, lasering and dialing as they presented themselves with my 5.56 One shot, one kill for 17 one day, many of them face shots as they stick their heads out to peek. This rifle has a Harris bipod now and has the Side Focus AO scope on it. A grouping at 100 yards when fine tuning the 100 yard zero This is a dialed in shot from 100 yards to 200 yards from a bench.

Accuracy/repeatability is not really a concern. I have owned Leupolds with M1s, M3s, Mark 2 dials, and standard target turrets. Over 50 of them.
I wanna know if they move easily, how much resistance to turn them in comparison to other dials, if they are audible, "mushy", etc......

audible clicks...no mushiness. As I have said, I have never had a problem with them moving on me in the field.

I have a VX3 3.5x10 with CDS and it does turn easier than my M1 turrets but I have never had it move unless I twisted it, I use the MOA dial with ZS and I'm constantly checking it to make sure it doesn't move, but I keep an eye on my M1's also!

They move easier than the target or M1 style.
They have the same resistance as the BDC type on the MK AR mod 1's.
No problems with them in the field or bouncing around the truck.

I'm firmly entrenched in the Anti-CDS camp.

I've packed them around, in and out of gun cases, and in and out of my Ebelestock pack, and have never had one move.

I've used them for four years in wilder country than most will ever see. Count me as a fan.

Mine were off once a day during a hunt. More often when bouncing around in the truck.

I will be using mine with the 1-Turn Zero Stop. Then I will have an ability to check that they are at 0 without looking. On my 6.5X47 Lapua, the one turn will get me to 700+ yards, much farther than I will engage game.

My sample of 1 has been underwhelming. I've had them spin inadvertently a few times.

I just bought one to play with myself. Mounted it on my 7WSM and developed a load for 160 AB's at 3025. I've shot it quite a bit and haven't had the CDS move yet - but in out of the truck/case ain't much of a test. I'll be carrying it this fall. We'll see.

Only a sample of one on a 300 WM for me. So far no complaints, dial has not moved other than if I turn it.

Mine spun several times, unacceptable behavior in a hunting scope for me. It has gone away.
