White kids (I'm assuming) may be a bit retarded in this respect.

Surprisingly few of them die from this malady. IMO.

My boys now in their early 30's were never afforded the "opportunity' of dirt bikes or ATVs, tho they did have some snow machine experience. And I hired out their Drivers Ed. smile

I'm 65 now, and learned to drive an ATV over the last 3 years... sort-of. Mostly I'm learning how not to get stuck.... smile

..next time Jr. gets hurt, hand him the bill.

Tell him hes gonna work it off, cut any allowance in half.

See if he dont "get it"after that and think twice out there.

Wait til he gets his drivers license. Then you can really worry about testosterone-driven stupidity. It is just beginning.

My Dad congratulated me on making 18 years of age with a fifty dollar bill for my birthday, they never thought I would make that far...

Start spending as much time as you can with your son, regardless of if he wants you to or not. Spend more time with him and on every single day.

I hear ya with the ER visits for stupid stuff with boys. Been there.

But seriously, it could be SO MUCH WORSE. You could be begging him to go outside while he clings to a video game or computer.

I'm raising three boys. The oldest is 31, youngest 22. #1 wife is raising four. Oldest is 59, youngest is 22.

It never ends.

I agree with others about making him pay the bill. I broke my knee in a motorcycle wreck at 16 (surgery required). The bill for that cost everything I had saved to buy my fist pickup; that sure stuck in my mind, made me think more about consequences.

I'm sorry to hear of it. Belated condolences.

He needs a bigger dirt bikeso he can keep it on the pipe, better control.
Never too young to ride something with a motor, better than frizzin' computer games.
I used to put my daughter ,at a very young age, on a Honda 80 , pop it in gear and let the clutch out for her. I would watch her... and when she was done she would ride by me and I would scoop her off.
Nothing more satisfying to get your kids their first dirt bike and see the look on their faces. Puppies and .22's work well too.

Patching broken arms is a lot cheaper than paying for drug rehab.

Be glad he's riding a dirt bike, Better than designing costumes for a Broadway show.

I can see this post is out of pure frustration and rightfully so but like others have said, it could be worse. The boy could be doing drugs and breaking into homes to support his habit. I think its time you sit him down and talk to him and tell him that the reason you get so upset with him is because you love him and don't want anything bad to happen to him. Tell him if you lost him you wouldn't know what to do with yourself. That should really make him think. It worked on me.

my son turned 16 years old last week.

I have 6 ATV's at the house and I can't get his ass off the couch from playing xbox long enough to ride one. Won't touch 'em.

At 15 I would have lived on an ATV if I had access to those things.

My 13 year old daughter on the other hand, was having me time her to see how fast she could do a lap around the yard.

I'd hate to foot the bill for him being a kid but I think I'd take a broken wrist if it meant he got out and did something once in awhile.
