I just bought a 22-250(1-9 twist) for varmint hunting. I've never varmint hunted before and need a little help with bullet selection for handloading. . I'm mostly hunting for coyotes but the area I'm in has a lot of hogs and would like to take one if the oppurtunity arises. What would be a good bullet/ weight for those animals? I was thinking about the Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint, but wasn't sure if that will be effective on hogs. Thanks Scott

Barnes 55gr TTSX. Always pick your bullet for the LARGEST game you might encounter. That larger game capable bullet will almost always work well enough on the smaller game animals. This is true in this case, for sure.

60gr. Hornady SP will work.
50gr V-Max should work well too.
75gr. A-Max will likely kill them all dead.
Any of the Barnes TSX or TTSX.

Speer 70 grain SMP....
good for deer or anything on down...hard hitting...
but seriously.. a one in 9 twist in a 22.250 should shoot about ANY non super fragile 22 caliber bullet on the market...
so you might want to look at the 75 and 80 grain A Maxes....

You are correct in thinking that the 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip is a bit fragile for medium to large hogs. That has been my go-to bullet for coyotes for years, and then the hogs moved in. It'll kill them, but I spent more time tracking than I wanted to. If you can stabilize it, and I'm sure you can (my rifle cannot), the Sierra 65 gr Gameking is a great and reasonably priced bullet for coyote and pigs. An even better choice, if your rifle will group it accurately and if you don't mind the extra expense, is the Nosler 60 gr Partition. I've run that bullet through a medium sized hog end to end.
And I should mention that the 65 gr GK is a particularly accurate bullet. You will like it.
