650 on the price tag..... Does it include a Leupold and $100.00 worth of factory ammo? Plus 4 bricks of 22lr.. I bought a left handed 6mm rem 2 years ago for $350.00 at a LGS..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Went pawn shop looking today to kill some time. I came across something I have not seen before...Remington 788 98% or so in 222...What is this rifle worth in your opinion? IMO, about $200. What is it worth in your opinion?

One thing I think we can all agree on is the rem 788 is a shooting sob. Every one I've shot has been a tack driver. They have pretty smooth actions and they function very well. The factory triggers weren't anything special, but boy do they shoot!!

The 788 was a cheap rifle. It was not nearly the rifle the Mohawk 600 was. Nonetheless, it has achieved something like cult status. As I recall, my brother paid 107 dollars for his 308, brand new. I paid 73.95 for a 44 Mag. One can buy a new 700 for less money than a used 788. Go figure. GD.

I have a beautiful Boyd's, Nutmeg Laminated semi-inlet stock for a Remington 788, new in box, for sale $60 plus shipping. If anyone is interested send me a pm.

I have seen 18.5" medium taper, 22" light taper, 24" heavy taper 788's. Anybody have the full list of barrels Remington put on the 788?

I have a left-handed 788 in 6mm Rem. that shoots very well. I think I paid $250 for it about 20 years ago. I think they only made the lefties in .308 and 6mm.

they are worth what ever anyone is willing to pay, the ln are at premium prices, have had many and sold, run across a mint 22-250& .223, only thing missing were the box's, I bought replacement stocks and put originals up, most would say I pd to much. haven't thought twice about the price, if the .222 is as nice as mine I would probably buy it, since I am not a 700 fan..

I've owned 2 in .223, 1 in .222 and 1 in .308. The .223's and .222 would often fail to eject a spent case clear of the ejection port. It would remain loose in the action until you either tipped the rifle to drop it out or manually removed it. The .308 would do that once in awhile but the .223/.222 did it all the time.
They all shot OK but they don't have cult status in my eyes.

I've got two 788's, one a LH 308 and the other a RH 223. The 223 has been a loaner for family and friends.
Both function perfectly and are very accurate without being picky regarding loads.
Even if they do not look pretty, they sure shoot pretty.
