Savages are brilliantly designed to still shoot well while looking cruddy and costing reasonable amounts. They get my vote over a Tikka.

Used Remmy and customize/upgrade as you like. Put the dollars you save toward good glass and mounts.
I would rather have a mediocre rifle with a great scope than the opposite combo any day.

When you shoot a Savage you get to contribute to keeping employment up in the copper solvent industry.

Gregintenn,
Nice Featherweight. Chambering?
I have a 2008 Limited Edition in 270 Win. That one's a 280 Remington.

thanks for all the help guys.. I went looking for some used Remm but no luck.. I was a little surprised I couldn't find one in 30 06. And after looking at some 700s and savages in synthetic stock they did not look good to me.
I finally went with a Savage Trophy Hunter XP. Its not SS but has a wood stock. To me it looks much better then most. It comes with a scope but that will not be there long. looking for new glass to replace it. I will post a pic when I get it.. Thanks for the help everyone..

If Remmy, go ahead and ship it back for the safety recall ...
Tikka
or
Savage

I like the looks of the stock, especially the crossbolts. Not a big fan of detachable mags, but I guess the straight-line feed ones have some advantages. Shoot it a bit to settle it in before you go dinkin' around with it. Enjoy.
What fresh Hell is this?

There is no [bleep] way on this earth I would give $6-700 for a Tikka.

The new triggers on the Remington's break clean... TFF
Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!
No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

jarhead88, good luck with your choice. It should do for everything in the lower 48 and a lot of other places. It is as good or better than a 270 depending on who you listen too around here and the 30-06 isn't considered "gay". Although if you had bought 270 according to some around here it would have been more powerfull than a 7mm Remington Magnum yet kicked less and the trigger would have f**ked up because it has Remington in the name. So it was well you picked as you did, find what ammo it likes and buy a case. During the last panic 30-06 ammo (extremely popular) was one of the first to fly off the shelves to be hoarded and disappear into blackhole closets forever until their owners estate sale happens. Save the cheap scope for your 22 and go find one that trips your trigger but don't mention it on the fire or your sure to find out how inadequate our choice was by fire member values. good luck and have some fun. Savages are brilliantly designed to still shoot well while looking cruddy and costing reasonable amounts. They get my vote over a Tikka. I wouldn't describe this one as "cruddy". I think it an attractive rifle.

Better ejector, better trigger, side bolt release, and better barrel (sako). I am not sure how Remington even sells any rifles these days.

A 700 doesn't cost $700.00.

It is a model 14 Classic chambered in 250-3000. They are also available in 243 Win. I don't care for the removable magazine, but I really like the rest of the rifle.

There is no [bleep] way I'd pay that much money for a Tikka.

I've got its ugly[er] sister in weather warrior guise: it shoots most stuff into around 1"-1.5", I've only ever really played with 87's and 100's:
