Don't forget to make room for all the 22 ammo for your entry fee...

Great grab, JB!
I have two Sako L46s in .222, first one I picked up at a gun show in the 90s, second I bought a couple years ago. Those were predecessors to your L461, had a trigger that was a copy of the Win 70 trigger, and a safety that blocked the firing pin, both of which I prefer to the trigger and safety on the later gun. I also think the classic stock design on the L46 is nicer but that's JMHO. Really nice workmanship, very accurate, great little guns!

I ran across an interesting Sako 222 the other day. It was a Marlin "Varmint King" with a factory stainless steel barrel blackened with some kind of finish, chambered in 222, with the factory rings and a no-name scope. It had no rear sight, but did have a front sight affixed with two screws.
Is an old Marlin Varmint King worth picking up to have as a 222 Sako? Any info on that particular variant?

The Marlin .222's are pretty nice rifles, and usually shoot VERY well.

Oregon45,
The 422 "Varmint King" was Marlin's attempt to get away from the micro-groove barrel by going to a 24" Stainless barrel. There were less than 400 "422 Varmint Kings" produced. That makes the Marlin 422 which uses the Sako L46 action among the scarcest of the proprietary Sakos. They have a reputation for being very good shooters. If it's in good shape and available for reasonable $ (I've seen them sell for $1000+), it's a very desirable proprietary Sako rifle. I'd be very interested in that rifle if you are not.

Thanks John and MCT3. I've got to learn more about the rifle and see what I have in the safe that I could part with before I decide one way or another. The rifle's been sitting at a local shop for more than a year so I may be able to get it at a good price.
