I have a 50 Beouwulf upper from Alexander Arms (AA). Mine has always had some issues. Originally it looked like it would be a great shooter but then things started going downhill. The groups opened up and it began to fail to feed, fire and eject rounds. I messed with it for a while, called AA, did what they suggested to no avail. So On Monday I boxed it up and sent it down for them to check out. Well, I got a call this morning around 8:15AM and had a very enjoyable and informative visit with a gentleman whose name escapes me with an unforgetable British accent (maybe Aussie?? or NZ?) and a host of fun phrasing. He told me the gas system was fine but the extractor was worn or perhaps never quite right. They will replace that, lap the barrel and fire it to determine it will shoot. Sounds like I should have it back next week. I call that service! He gave me many good tips on loads and cleaning regimen and I hope to be back shooting my fifty soon.
One interesting thing he noted was their Beowulf has ate every type of optic except the Eotech Holosight. That's what I was using on mine and what will go back on when it returns. He said they ate so many Leupolds that Leuppy bought two rifle from them to see what beefing was needed to make them Beowulf proof. He also said the gun killed ACOG's and every type of red dot they put on it. I think that's valuable info. particularly if you want to sight a heavy kicker, or a gas gun that adds it's special stress to the sight.
Another thing he mentioned was that Kroil Oil and Butches Bore Shine don't play nice together. For that matter any ammonia based solvent with Kroil Oil can be a problem as Kroil does not neutralize the ammonia like a good gun oil can. Basically he said use the Kroil for loosening parts in a disassembly if needed/desired but leave it out of a bore. he recommeneded a new Hoopes paste that I'll try.
Just an interesting call and some things for thought. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

You gotta love the Eotech's!
Thanks for the heads up on that combination of solvents. I've heard about other combination's as well.
Thanks.

Mr. RickyD, We have an Aimpoint CompML3 on ours with no problems so far. Of course, it could fail on the next round fired, I suppose. Appreciate your sharing the info. We never thought of the Beowulf as being a "heavy kicker" but do understand the additional stress induced by an auto loader. Perhaps we need to get in touch with AA and Aimpoint. Best Wishes

Maybe this means one has to use an air rifle scope on the beowulf. I"ve seen 2 leupys ate up on 223 Ars also though most will say I"m crazy.
I have a 2.5x8 on mine right now and though the course of load work and last falls hunting season things started looking weird inside they scope but it still works.
I had bought a fixed 6x to stick on it Leupy, may have to reconsider. Maybe I have to stick an etched glass on it somehow....
Eotech is fine, but for 200 yard shots I sure like to be able to identify the deer I want amongst others and that can be tough if you ID the deer and drop the binocs and get the gun up you can easily loose track.

The new Simmons Master Series scopes are already proving to be quite tough. I'd love to see how well they hold up on a Beauwolf. I've yet to hear of a single rifle killing one.

Well I said I"d stick a 6x fixed (if they make it) Simmons on my beowulf but never could find a new simmons some time back. Maybe if they are now available I should give it a go. I doubt the glass quality will be great but maybe it will hold up.
Though I"d suspect the only true thing to hold up would be an airgun scope.
Leupy already fixed one of my friends scopes on the 223 but told him they would not fix it next time if he kept it on the AR.
