I thought I read somewhere that WY had reduced their antelope quotas in several units. Anybody know all the details?

Thanks,

Dan

Not sure but it makes sense as the population is down in many areas.

The final regs are approved along with the quota recommendations.

The GF Commission adopted all the quotas for pronghorn recommended by the GF Biologists. Most herds in the State are either at, or below objectives, thats why tags have been reduced. I was at the GF commission meeting April 28 for the season setting/quota recommendations.

Not all units/herds saw reductions in tag numbers, but many did.

Over-all there was a reduction of about 12,000 tags statewide.

You should be able to find a link to the final quotas on the WYGF website.

Check this link:

This is for the Laramie area, but you can navigate to the main page and look into the other areas for quotas, etc.

Ouch! We applied for 32 and it looks like they reduced tags from 400 to 300. We might be on the outside looking in...

Nice, the areas I hunt have either the same or more tags, So the antelope will be blown off the public land by 9:00 a.m. the first day.............. I have to get one place on private land and all will be good! grin

Can someone explain exactly how the draw works? If for say you have 3 preference points and apply for a unit you know you won't get as your first choice, do your preference points count toward your second choice where three may be enough to get a tag, or do you go into the general/no preference points with everyone else on that second choice unit?

Preference points only count towards your first choice

Every app is in the PP draw, regardless of points. Those that didn't draw are then in the random draw, with a new random number, and with their 1st choice carried over with them. After all 1st choice apps have been looked, at they go thru the 2nd choice apps.

Points are only used for 1st choice, full price, licenses. Not used for type 6/7 regardless of 1st choice or 4th.

I am waiting on results as well but I ran into a guy at the range yesterday and said he already has his doe permit and only paid $40. When I asked him how he got that of course, he couldn't explain it, his buddy made the arrangements but he did have some sort of receipt from WY.

Is there a not drawing method to buy doe tags for pronghorn in WY? I went to their website and found nothing.

You can apply for doe, fawn tags same time as you would for buck tags, the apps are due in mid March the draw being held sometime in June. Now you have to wait for the leftover tags which include doe, fawn to go on sale

I would imagine that receipt he had was simply from the application he submitted earlier in the year. I have a receipt that shows the tags I applied for and their costs, but it doesn't mean I actually have the tags. Wyoming charges the full cost of tags when you apply and then reimburses you for anything that isn't drawn. I bet the guy you saw at the range was simply confused about the process and didn't realize that his receipt was simply from the application process.

If you draw your second choice you don't lose your pref points which is what I was eluding too. I should have been more clear. Thanks for the expanded definition wink
