Went out on the Trophey Hunter from Oregon Inlet in North Carolina, had a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Great Captain and crew, can't say enough about the trip and the conduct of the charter. Over 700 pounds of fish on the boat in about an hour, first bait had a strike in five minutes, didn't stop reeling for another hour.

Got into a a school like that down in the Keys at 7 Mile Bridge one year. Brought in the Bullnose first, which was a 40 pounder and still on my wall. The chicken kept on coming. Left 2 hooked rods in the water the whole time, which seem to be the magic. Got bored by noon and went diving for lobsters. We let the 2 that set the magic for us go.

Good stuff.

Mind me asking who your Captain was?

Thanks and congrats!!

David

Sure, it was Captain Kenneth Brown.

http://www.fishtrophyhunter.com/

We stayed overnight at the house he has shown on his website, it's clean, comfortable, and in great condition. Takes about 20-30 minutes to get from the house to the boat. We were up at 0400, dockside by 0445, and rolling out by 0515. The boat is comfortable for 6 clients, two mates, and our gear. We started fishing at 0715-30 with 40 pre-rigged baits in the cooler, by 0830, all were re-used or gone, one fish cooler was completely full, and we had started on another.

They just finished a shoot for "Wicked Tuna" that should air next month in June.

How do you handle that big a haul? We bring in 300+ each time we go out of Carolina Beach on a weekend and have a "fish-fry" attended by 60 - 75 folk the following Tuesday.

That's a lot of mahi mahi....

What was total costs including lodging please? The house looks nice and convenient. But hard to tell if that was separate from the boat costs. I noticed they were booked all of June. I'll have to see if they're historically still running July/August. I know May and June are the hot months for the Gulf warm up.

Look forward to their episode on WT. I like that show and only 2 more episodes left.

Thanks for the info!

I'm a newby at Oregon Inlet, so facts may be off a bit...

As I understand the business model, the charter prices are set for all the fishing fleet that operate out of the marina. A number years ago, a group of boat Captains formed an official buisines alliance, with agreed upon fees and services. This was to prevent prices swings and stabilize the number of boats fishing from Oregon Inlet, if you are going to Captain there, they have a set fee list that they will let you charge customers.

The charter prices are posted on the dockside wharf, I took a picture of the posted price list and the fish processing fees, and will upload and post it later today.

We expected about $500 per person for the whole trip with one night at the house, however, we paid about $580 per person, we tipped extra, and the fish weight for processing was about twice what we expected...not a bad thing.

Perfect information. Thanks for posting. Looks like a great house.

And you're right ----tipping extra and higher processing fees than expected ARE definitely good things.
