Stopped at a large retailer and they have a gently uses Beretta 686 ringneck 20 ga for $1149. Its a pheasant forever gun marked "1 of 750" and I don't know if that is #1 or just one of 750 made. Blued reciever. Pheasants forever logo on the bottom of the reciewer and ring neck images on the side are quality looking gold along with the "1 of 750"

Its a nice & light gun and I am tempted to buy it for grouse hunting and not be a safe queen. Actually I don't normally like these "special" guns.

Is the price in line or not for a standard grade gun (and a collector)?

And I welcome opinions on guys that know about this model.

If that 686 Ringneck was a 28 gauge with 28" barrels, I would be calling every sporting goods store in your area to find it, and buy it out from under you! grin Actually, these are very good shotguns, they are basically a 686 Black Onyx with gold inlays and special logos. There were two versions of the Ringneck, the "1 of 500" and the "1 of 750". The "1 of 750" version is nicer, IMHO, because the inlays are nicer and the "1 of 500" uses Beretta's so-called "Xtra Wood". And, yes, they are all marked "1 of 750", the one you are looking at is not the very first one of 750 made! grin

I own a 686 Covey (Quail Unlimited) "1 of 750", 28 gauge 28" barrels, as well as the same shotgun in a 686 Black Onyx. I love them, because Berettas seem to fit me so well, and I seem to shoot them well. I don't shoot my 686 Covey, because I have the same shotgun in a 686 Black Onyx, which I do shoot. But, there is nothing so special about the Ringneck (or Covey) that it shouldn't be shot!

Personally, I think that is an excellent price, if it is in very nice condition. Keep in mind a brand new 686 SPI runs $1899 at my LGS, and it is essentially the same gun, but with a silver receiver and machined engraving. If it trips your trigger, jump on it, before the next guy does! grin

So, did you grab this Ringneck, or not? Pics would be nice!

Not yet. The shop is a ways away from me and I spotted while looking at 12 gaugues. I've taken up trap shooting so I should get a 12 gauge, but that 20 gauge could be my "old age" gun being light and light recoiling (although a light 20 like that may not be light recoiling...)

I'm going to hem & haw for a while.

I could always buy it for the wife in case she gets back into grouse hunting with me...

A very nice 686 for $1149, maybe a little less with some haggling? Buy it, don't be silly!

yea yea yea... I'm watching it on the website and there is a "sale pending"... Sold my stoeger upland supreme 20 sxs so I have a little more money towards the ringneck if I go in there to grab it. That would be a serious upgrade ;-)

Although I can't get the wife any more 20 gauges. She was shooting a savage fox sxs 20 I got for $275 and she was crushing it in pasture trap shooting....
