IF not too sold on the win mag case, might give a look to the .30/338. A bit less case capacity, a bit more neck. Proven history as a longrange accuracy round. Bit more in the barrel life dept. Smaller case let you have more flexibility with moderate loads and more room to seat longer bullets.

Really, the ticket if shooting 180gr and up bullet weights is the .30-06 Ackley Improved. Might keep an eye out for a used .476 bolt body and consider setting up your Win 70 crf to be a switchbarrel gun. Model 70 is great platform to switchbarrel.

Thanks for the recommendation of Redneck.

Hogan, I actually did consider the .30/338, but already have brass and dies for the Win Mag so decided to go that route.
Forgot to mention the barrel is a slightly modified #2 contour, should finish out around .610 at muzzle.
I weighed everything and it should finish out at 8 lbs 4oz all up.

8 lbs 4 oz is perfect for a 300 mag. Mine is 8 lbs 6 oz all up and I would not want anything much lighter for the recoil this round produces. I think you will be happy with your set up.

Thanks Ackleyman, your right about the weight. I don't think I would want it much lighter, My current 300win mag tips the scales at 9 lbs 6oz. Still have a few things to iron out, like Cerakote color on metal and on the stock. Thinking Graphite Black on metal and either Brown, Gray, or OD Green with Black Webbing on stock.
