I am interested in finding out your favorite reloads for the .300 H&H magnum and for the .416 Rigby. I have a pre '64 Model 70 Win in .300 H&H and a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby and wish to reload for both of these cartridges with bullets ranging from 165 gr to 230 gr for the .300 H&H; and with bullets ranging from 350 gr to 450 gr for the .416 Rigby. Please include the primers used, the name of the cases used and the name of the powders and grams used for each caliber. thanks in advance for your private load data! Bob

300 H&H 200 gr Partition or Swift A Frame 72 gr H-4831 Fed-215 primer COL for both 3.585" Vel. 2900 fps in my pre-64 M-70 with a 26" barrel.
I'll have to go out to the shop for the 416 Rigby data, but it consisted of H-4350, Fed-215 primers and the 400 gr TSX bullets.

On second thought my 416 Rigby loads were very warm, they ran 2675 fps.
You can start with 94 gr of H-4350 with the 400 gr TSX's if you wish, that's several grains under where my rifle topped out.

300 H&H Pre-64 M70 and Ruger No. 1S 200 gr Partition or Accubond 70 gr H-4831 Fed-215 primer
71 gr H-4831 shoots equally well but I felt my primer pockets were loosening sooner than I like so I backed down to 70.

I too have a CZ550 in 416 Rigby. I have used IMR4350, H4350, RL22, and H4831. This seems to be a cartridge that is tolerant of different powders because it shot them all well. I have settled on H4831 though as it gave good results and it also shoots well in my 338, 3006, and 6.5x55.
Hornady and Norma brass.
Large rifle magnum primers. I have used Remington, Federal, and Winchester as supply has not always been good here but I have not noticed any difference in POI with the various primers.
I "plink" with 350grn Speer Hot Cores.
I hunt with 400grn Swift Aframes.
If I feel I am getting rusty with it I'll load up a box of Speers at 85 grains of H4831 and shoot squirrels, grouse, cans, etc with my daughters while we hike.
For big game IIRC it is 104 grains of H4831. On a bench I can get the holes to touch with this load. I started at about 85 and worked my way up and then down to this load.
I just got a chrongraph this Christmas so I do not know the velocities of the different loads yet. I have gone as high as 110 grains of H4831 but I found the recoil to start being unpleasant.

I've only loaded for four .300 H&H rifles, which isn't a vast c cross-section, but have had good luck with the following powders in each bullet weight listed:
165: IMR or H4350 180: Reloder 22 and Ramshot Hunter 200: H4831
Have only loaded for one .416 Rigby, but have had luck with the following, both in "standard" velocity loads and .416 Weatherby-type loads:
350: Reloder 19 400: Ramshot Magnum

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your response to my asking about reload data for my .300 H&H magnum and .416 Rigby! I will try out these suggested loads in the near future and will load up several rounds for my fall hunt! Bob
Glad to join this very exclusive community! Now I need some help in finding a VERY GOOD GUIDE for a Yukon hunt this fall for a RECORD BOOK MOOSE (about 71 inches)! Any suggestions?????

I've always used RL22 and a 180gr and have been well satisfied.

300 H&H: 180gr TTSX/71g RL-22 CCI-250 primers, WW/RP/Nosler brass 2910 fps 200gr Swift A Frames 69gr RL-22
416 Rigby: 400gr Swift A Frames/Barnes TSX: 90.2gr IMR 4350 2430 fps F-215 primers (two buffalo shot with this load)
350gr Barnes: 96gr H-4350. Superb accuracy.

My long, LONG time 416 Rigby loads are 400gr Barnes monolithic solids driven to 2600fps with H4350 (IIRC about 96 or so grains, but start lower and work up) and 350gr TTSX bullets with an even 100grs of H4350, DEFINATELY start lower and work up slowly. All fired up by Federal 215 primers in Norma Brass.
Both loads are very deadly, and both loads come back on ya pretty hard so work up not only to the velocity you want, but the recoil you really can shoot pretty well.
Truth be told, the loads Jorge posted are plenty deadly, and have been doing in Pachyderms and such for 103 years now. And, easy on the shoulder and ears for a truly big DGR rifle.

Sorry, can't help with the 300H+H, but my favourite bullet and load for the 416 Rigby is: Norma cases, Woodleigh 410gr RNSP, RE22 @ 104gr and either Fed215 or WLRM primers. In my CZ550 I get just over 2500fps, absolutely knocks 'em flat. Cheers.

Too bad we cannot yet hunt wooly mammoth, cave bears or Orca's with our big guns I am in discussions with Hubel458 about getting one of his 585 Hubel Express repeating bolt action rifles. All this talk of big guns and loads for such is giving me loads of ideas and hopes.

I love big guns, all of mine bar one are on CZ 550's, the 375 Weatherby is on a custom Win Model 70 Classic Stainless with HS Precision stock. I have 416 Rigby, 458 Lott and 505 Gibbs on 550's and I have another 550 in 458WM that I will build into a 404 Jeffrey, have most of the parts for it already. I would really like to have something in 577/585, just don't know whuch one!
Cheers.

No 416 experience but I have loaded a few 300 H&H rounds over the years. The load I took to Alaska to hunt on Kodiak was 150 Nosler Partition golds pushed by Ramshot hunter. Don't have the data in front of me buy I used 300WSM data. It has proven very good data for the H&H believe it or not. Also used it to take a couple of bull elk in a non-toxic only unit with 180 Fail Safes and 4831. Interestingly enough, both of the bullets I have taken game with are no longer manufactured!

Mule deer and others have written that 300WSM and 300 H&H data are interchangeable. Exact same internal dimensions, and one gets exactly the same results, too. The short fat case efficiency crap is being shown to be as inneffective as the venturi and reverse ventury shoulders that Roy Weatherby and others touted 50 years ago. Our generations obsessive but wrong headed fad.
