Just bought a gorgeous used Browning BSS 12ga. It is fixed choke mod/full with 28" barrels. Made in Japan, very nice gloss wood with only a few soft dings from safe storage and hunting. Lockup is super solid, like new, with lever quite a ways to the right still. I feel that this gun had not seen much use and was cherished by the previous owner.
I can wait to shoot some clays let alone take her for a walk. Pics to come soon. Got her for $900 even, what do you think?
Does anyone else here have one of these beauties?

You did well buying a BSS for $900.00. You will never lose money on it if you keep it in decent shape. I have one just like yours except it is choked IC/M. It's my favorite pheasant gun and one of the few SxS doubles I can hit really well with. They are a bit heavy but very well made and durable. I will never sell mine.

The table stamped * and **, I believe that denotes full and mod.

I picked up a BSS 12 ga two years ago for sporting clays events. It was full/mod. I sent it off to Briley to have thin wall chokes installed. 30" barrel with selective trigger. They're a great gun and you did well at $900

Sure wish I would have picked one up in 20 gauge as they really fit me well. I think you got a fair deal on a great gun.

In the northeast, I've seen nice ones go for $1500. I'd say you got one heck of a deal!

I too have a two....
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

i bought a Miroku SxS off of a member here last summer as a gift for my soon to be Eagle Scout son. it was an older mid 60's vintage with double triggers and is close to the Browning in looks. i would love to find a 20 ga in either a Miroku branded or browning branded for myself one day. here is the model i ended up with https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth..._Miroku_350A_12GA_SXS_Wester#Post7839569

Jim a local GS has or had a miroku 20 ga that looked nice. However open the action and look down the barrels and it looked like a sewer pipe. I don't recall ever seeing a modern gun that pitted. I don't know if the previous owner shot rock salt thru it or what but it was a wreck,

That's a good price. I bought one when they were first introduced in 12 gauge MF. Sold it to a good friend who lusted over that BSS. I'd like to find a pristine one in 20 gauge.

I had a Winchester pigeon grade side X side in 12 gauge built by Miroku and I can't remember the model number as I type this. I had the mod and full chokes reamed to skeet I and skeet II for skeet and 5-stand shooting. The butt stock profile was for more for a hunting gun than clay shooting and the gun just beat me to death.
I never really had a recoil issue before with any gun except for a 12 gauge Belgium Browning in college. I sold the Winchester to the first guy that looked at it twice. I paid $1,200 for the shotgun in the box and "sold" it for $850.00....my shoulder made me do it!!!
Of course with light 7/8 and 1 oz loads that I shoot now I would likely still own the gun. Oh well....I still love my Parker Gun.

Doc, that would be a Winchester Model 23. I have a pair of those with screw-in chokes. My experience with those is about the same as yours. Those guns will just about bring me to tears, trying to shoot a couple rounds of skeet! Don't mind them so much for pheasant, even tho they are a mite heavy.
Talk is cheap. It takes money to buy whiskey.

A friend has one in 20 gauge. He bought it at a small gun shop in NE PA for, I think, $200 because the barrels are heavily pitted and the second barrel didn't always fire. His is the pistol grip/beavertail fore-end model with single trigger. I like it, for a SxS. It is heavy. With 26" barrels it weighs 7 lbs. even. My Beretta BL-3 20 gauge with 26" barrels weighs a shade over 6 lbs. This Browning SxS is picky about the ammo you feed it, at least in the left barrel. It won't fire reliably with certain ammo, and has been back to Browning to address the problem. Browning said they were aware of the problem. The answer is simple: Check your ammo for function before you go hunting! I'm having it refinished for him at the present time by a gunsmith friend. The pits won't be completely gone, but the appearance will be much better when he is done. There is another like it for sale at a local skeet/trap range for $1,600, which is way too high.
