would like to try tenkara wihout going too far into the hole. Can anyone recommend someplace to pick up a complete package without going over the top (say a 200-300 budget).
Most likely looking for something along the lines of a 12' 7:3 or 6:4 not sure if 12' is too long for a beginner or not but it seems to be about average and thats why i chose it. small to mid size stream use and also some bream fishing off the dock for practice.

I have a Tenkara USA Sato sitting on my doorstep when I get back from work today. The package was about $250 and the company has a 60 day trial period. I've never tried Tenkara before, but the 3 position rod seemed to make sense for small stream to pond fishing. YMMV

Orvis has a Tenkara set up for $ 215 listed on line, its a 12' Tenkara USA rod with the lines. It dose not take much to get rigged up. I think I got all of 200 into mine if that. I tie my own flies and I have plenty of tippets. All you need is a spool of 5x maybe some 4 x and 6 x as well. If money is really tight like it is for most of us, go with 5 x.
