Feelin' your pain here, himmelrr, though this is only my fourth year of futility.

Fingers still crossed for Vermont or New Hampshire.

Better luck to us both next year.

I to have missed out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I can't complain because my brother and I went on a hunt in 1987 and my wife and I went on another hunt in 1993. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Both times we scored on the first day . No major trophy's but lots of meat! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

If I go again we are going to concentrate on calling which I think will produce a bigger animal.

If anyone gets drawn and needs a good guide I know several that will put you onto some real hot spots. These guides also do a lot of calling during the "rut" and when one of these giants of the Maine woods responds you will be in for a real treat. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

10 years in a row. 4 years in a row, 5 yeras in a row! Man you guys are just rookies. This was my 14th or 15th year in a row. Remember though, the only sure way of not getting a tag is by not applying. Hopefully next year we will all draw our tags.

I missed out again this year too. I'll be guiding some lucky son-of-a-gun though. I take out one hunter per year. I have just as much fun calling the bulls in for somebody else.

Speaking only for myself, I wish Maine would go to a western-type preference point system where unsuccessful applicants can have a reasonable hope that they will eventually draw. As it is now, the extra ticket in the pot for failing to draw really adds very little to your chances.

The current system also makes no allowance for those who know they won't be able to hunt in a given year. Even if you know you can't go, you have to enter anyway or lose all your points; if you're unlucky enough to win, you have to refuse the tag and again lose all your points.

I like Colorado's deer/elk system better. I know I won't be able to hunt there until 2008 due to my law school schedule, but in the meantime, I can still lend the state my money for a couple months every year to buy preference points, and have a decent chance of drawing a decent area when my schedule allows me to go.

I feel sorry for you guys that wait that long. Here we average an adult tag every second or third year, and can hunt calves in the off years. With three hunters in my family, usually one of us has an adult tag.

Congradulations to those who were successful, and enjoy your hunt AND the meat.

I can hunt Trophy Moose every year right on the Maine border with Quebec <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> There are some huge Moose coming across the border without passports <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Actually, while I can hunt there, I have a few other, better options about 10 hours north of Montreal- only catch is it is ONE Moose per two hunters <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

All I need is a harvest ticket and I can hunt bull moose right out my door for over a month. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
