It varies from store to store. Sometimes stores get markdown allowances and delegate their use by department. (I work for Wal-Mart.) If you watch the racks, you can get some impressive deals. My best to date was a Model 70 in '06 for $200.00.

My best walmart gun buy was a Browning A-Bolt Medallion that someone had on layaway, then decided not to purchase. I bought it for $225, brand new.

Look for any clearance stuff on guns to occur a little closer to fall as they get new inventory in for the fall season.

I gotta say, up until a couple years ago, I hardly gave the Walmart gun case even a remote glance. Most of what they carry in these parts is pretty...vanilla. Not what interests me anyway. But one day my nephew, who'd been thinking about buying his first rifle, calls me up and asks, "Hey,...is a Remington 700 a good rifle and is $150 a good deal?" I just knew he had to be wrong, and just in case he wasn't...I wanted in!! So I called them...sure nuff! Remington 700's ADL .243 for $150 on "close out"!! Two left, both spoken for and he got one. I'd have probably bought a dozen at that price! So,...ever since then,...I look when I'm there.

My aunt trudi works at the Walmart and tells me them Walmart firearms are factory seconds. Now she is kinda out there if she doesn't take her medications but I guess it could be true.

They should have a sale on 22's since they never have ammo for them! Beat me to it.. Walked through last night to buy some nightcrawlers. The S&W MP22 was on sale. They had $500 off on one of the AR clones.. $1495 to $995 or such, others lowered quite a bit also. About 4 folks at a time lined up to buy.

I don't think the guns are factory seconds. I have looked through a firearms log and their special order book at a local Wal-mart and they have access to the same distributors that many other gun shops use.

We have at least four walmarts within 50 miles of each other and not one of them has jack squat for a gun selection. Mainly vanilla mossberg pumps.

I just checked out my local store. They had clearance guns too. But the clerk said it was for one week window. And now the unsold guns that remain are back up to their normal pricing. And dude was a total ass hole about me just asking. Fjuck walmart.
