I wanted to add the following info. to my post.. I have kept journals of hunting and fishing for years.. As well as game and fish taken.. But I realized, I don't have an accurate list of all the rivers, lakes, and ponds I have fished in the last 60 years.. May be able to check my old journals, but it sure would be a nice thing to have in one's later years..

I have two separate journals one for my fishing( 98% fly) and one for Hunting. I have kept detailed notes on my time on the streams, lakes and ponds, going back almost 50 years. Over the years I have been able to see a pattern on what was or not effective on a giving day time, season of they year. I been able to reduce the amount of weight I carry day to day . I am long past 30 years of age. Its a great thing to re read what you wrote when you were say 13 and compare to how you would write it now. I can tell the more I did the better I got at fly fishing and I really started getting into detail, that really made flying which is detail orientated so much easier. Also my tastes in fly rods reels lines and leader and tippet, It an eye opener since they stuff I had early on was not as good as we have it now. And now many have gone out of business or were just bought out or dropped it all together. You know you are getting old when some of the stuff you took for granted at the time are now collectors items. I myself been fishing a fiber glass rod this year, I been fishing my old Fenwick 8' for a 5wt even the old Medalist reel and old DT court land 333 fly line. This year I decided to fish like I did in 1969, only the leaders are well Frogs Hair.

I had mine since 1967 bought it with lawn mower money, I been toying with getting a Reddington Butter Stick- but I spent most of my savings on a Czech Nymphing Rod and Reel and hooks and weights. I been doing it since late April, on my hard fished waters its another tool and very very effective. One my favorite streams sees a lot of flies all fished the same way. I am still on a learning curve. This evening the Sulphers were coming off pretty good and I managed to hook and land 20 fish before it got to dark around 9: 15 pm- It was a great evening fishing- Mid day I did pretty good with the czech nymphs - I can't wait till hopper time and the old fenwick. Its been a blast this year so far, I just might take my 7'6" 6 Wt Orvis Battenkill Split cane rod my mother gave to me for my 16th birthday. I may have sold and traded guns but I have ever rod I ever owned still.
