Good stuff! I was there just last week. Caught my first bonefish and lost one with a 6 wt rod exactly where you are in the last pic. When I landed my fish, I got an ovation from two hot girls in bikinis, a first in my fishing career. Did you hire a guide?

Good for you, those are a blast on a fly rod, and to do it by yourself with out the aid of a local guide that knows the flats and how to catch them is just icing on the cake. I myself have fished for them, but I not much for Salt Water, never have been for some reason, and I live all of 20 min from the Salt. I am just a degenerate trout guy. I have long excepted that short coming !

Nice fish. I am going to try to do the same thing this February in Mexico. What rod weight were you using and what fly, or flies, worked best for you?

I was using a 9wt rod. The fly was a pink Crazy Charlie. I happened to be swimming there the day before with my wife and daughter. I put on the snorkel gear and while snorkeling I saw a school of about 30. I went back there the next morning a got into them. I could have probably caught more but people started to show up to go swimming. That was the only chance I got to get out. Fun morning though.

Trout are my one true love but if I have the opportunity to fly fish for another species I won't pass it up. I'm heading back to Montana to Missoula in July. I can't wait for that trip.

Truth be told, no one catches monster bonefish. They simply clean you out.

I know, I been known to hit the stripers and Blue Fish when they are inshore and I can wade to them. One evening on a beach in RI -I got into the blues for about 2 hours, had a good sized fish on with just about ever cast. I should fish the salt more that I do. I love Montana, I am trying to figure out a way to move there. I like to go out west when I have the free time right after labor day to the mid middle of Oct. few people around and better rates on the motels and such. This way I get an extra 10 days vs July. But you take your time when you can get it.
