Are killing me. We've taken 2 to the animal shelter in the past year and I'm about to take anther tomorrow. She arrived on Friday but is now finally coming to the porch. Lots of food, coaxing to get her to that point.

Her tits are about dragging on the ground, just a country dog.

We also had one that we found down the street that was very emaciated. Took her to the vet and she was loaded with heartworms (likely treatable) but was also full of some other form of infection. Had to put her down.

I know 1 of the 2 we took to the shelter was retrieved by the owners a week later and the other got a home.

I'm pretty sure the recent dog is a 'drop her in the country' dog.

You just can't keep them all.

Kudos to you Steely...one of the downfalls to living in the country.

I grew up on a road the people loved to dump dogs and cats on.

The last dog that got dumped had never been outside it's pen. Didn't know how to act with such freedom.

Ended up getting hit on the Highway after a couple of days.

People can be real A-holes...

Don't do it unless you want to make an emergency trip to the vet.

Mine has eaten them like candy for 9 years now.

Larger dog, yes.

Ankle biter, no.

You are doing good and laudable work.

Those dumping the dogs, on the other hand deserve some poetic justice - I suggest far into the Sonora Desert.

Thank you for helping these dogs out Steelhead. I wish there were more people who would take the time to care like you and your wife have.

My heart goes out to this mama dog. People are so stupid! To let this girl get pregnant over and over and then dump her off! I hate to think about the pups. ..Only God knows what kind of abuse and or neglect this girl has been through given how long it took her to trust you to come out and eat.

Our strays have been the best pets we have owned. They seem to know when you are their last hope. I'm so glad you are there for her.

When I was a country living boy, we just eliminated the problem as it popped up. Stray dogs were not welcome.

This world needs people who give a chit. Good on you for doing what you can for the pooches.

Funny, we've lived in the sticks for 10 years and have yet to have a stray dog or cat drop in on us, except for a senile old heeler that wandered off from his farm a few miles away.

Per your other post it sounds like you got rid of wives as frequently and with similar sentimentality.

This covers it.

We were not looking for an addition, but we certainly have one now due to [bleep].... actually the pup seems like a really good one, but i suspect once it got its back leg broken, they didn't care, its healed a bit but will never be perfect but the pup doesn't know that, and unless it arrived at Mickey's instead of us, it probably couldn't have found a better home.

Goes to show not all country boys have feelings all the time. But I do know what you mean. I"ve shot a few violent wild ones, but it pained me greatly to do so.

Beyond that they get homes generally, one way or another.

Do you have to work at being this way, or does it just come naturally?

Of course, you can't keep all of them. I much appreciate your compassion and what you do for them out of the goodness of your heart.
