I grew some this for the first time. Interesting stuff and it's actually pretty good eating raw. I'll have to find some ways to cook it because I have quite a bit of it. Kohl is German for cabbage and Rabi is Swedish for turnip. The greens are supposed to be tasty too. [Linked Image]

Haven't had it for years - but you're right, it's quite good to eat raw..

My father in laws Hungarian sister makes a soup with kohlrabi that's pretty good. Loads of paprika, vegetables and sour cream. That's the only way I've eaten it.

I have had a soup similar to that, no sour cream though, and it contained chunks of kielbasa. Quite good from what I remember.

Reminds me of the Bartles & Jaymes wine cooler commercials where they did endless evaluations to find something that went poorly with their draft.

Seems kohlrabi eventually won out and the subject was jokingly aired in a commercial. They were forced to issue an apology when the industry raised Hell.

The asparagus is finished here and the kohlrabi is just about ready to eat. We grow two varieties, the early version is the Eder and the later variety is the Winner. Use to grow the super sized Kossack but now just went back to the two. The Eder is fantastic raw.

I've gotten kohlrabi all season just by planting between the rows a couple of weeks later and not thinning. The plants are shaded and don't grow much until you harvest the plant that's shading it.

I too love it raw. Slice it thin with just a bit of salt and it's delicious.

Well, there's no doubt I'll be thinking of Monsters Inc. every time I eat one from now on.
