Hi there.

My Mother found this in a mole's mount, in the backyard.

As far as we Know my parents are th first modern era inhabitants of their ground, which is situated in rural area. So there is no reason to find copies of artifacts there.

My Mother ' s cousin, whom used to be an antiques shop owner, says it's a prehistoric tool's head.

What do you think?

It looks too "precise" to me to be prehistoric, but I have no idea what it was

Old.....cutting edge - probably attached to a handled device of some sort.

The french word for that kind of tool would be "herminette". Herminettes were apparently typical from the nolithic era.

I already found a Napolon III coin in the river b next to the backyard but this seems to be actually old.

Wanted to say it was a Celt, but then it is so small, and with a hole at top. If not a Celt, then a gorget. Very cool find!

If it's authentic, it could be more than 3000 years older than the celt civilization. It is possible 'cause 4000 BC artifacts have been found no more than 10 miles from my parents' home.

It would be really something if it was truly a neolithic hand axe, but just looking at how perfectly that hole is drilled, makes me have my doubts at its age.

It appears something mechanical MAY have drilled that hole. It looks like it broke at the second hole toward the rear.

The hole doesn't goes through the Stone. It is only few mm deep (there is another hole on th other side which is less deep and wide). I can't figure what would have been its purpose but it is not so perfect that it would not have been possible to dig it with a sharp and hard hand tool.

The history of the place might be interesting.

Local fokloric vents in th area are based upon lgends and processions from the middle age. In th area we have artifacts from celt & roman priods back to nolithic (10 miles from the place where the stone was found) and even neandertal man's traces (30 miles away we have a cave where men lived 36000 years ago ). In local sand mines were found sharks teeth and th place is now more than 150 miles from see and 200 yards above its level.

Many battles occured there accross th ages too

Looks to me like an artifact that was drilled (later) to be displayed as a pendant. The clasps/connector for those usually have two studs that do not go completely through, and the fixture is crimped crimped onto the piece.

Don't discount the possibility someone may have modified it. I have certainly seen enough artifacts turned into jewelry, lamps, "art" ....

Looks like a tool for stretching and cleaning sinew into fine strands.

Its too perfectly shaped, cut, and drilled to have been done by hand. It's modern but I don't know what it is.

I disagree.

Sometimes the very oldest stone artifacts are the finest in precision and craftsmanship.
