I am currently drilling and hand stitching my sheathes. It takes me 30-45 minutes to do the stitching. It is a big time sink for an item that doesn't make the money. I've watched videos of guys with machines doing them in 20 seconds to 2 minutes. I like the control of making my own sheaths so I can customize them for each knife shape.
I'm about ready to buy a stitcher but WOW to sew through 3 layers of leather is expensive!
Does anybody have any advice?
Has anybody used a Tippman Boss? I have seen them for less than $1000 used but I've heard they don't do the best finish work.

I have a Tippman. It will not sew in reverse or do very good for me around tight curves. I leave extra thread at bottom and top of sheath and hand sew it back to lock in place. I bought mine 3 or 4th hand and it did not work correctly. i found a local sewing machine guy to work on it and now does super now. I would call Cobra and see if he has any trade in ones that were availble. I talked to him once and all he wanted to push was the saddle sewing machine(the big one) I kept telling him I only needed the 9? inch one. I only have about $600 invested in mine ever after repairs.

I bought a Windham sewing machine from Tony Luberto and I do all my stuff with it. I have had problems with it and it's been back to him 3 times. It's working now so I will keep my fingers crossed. I had a Tippmann and sent it back because the thread got stuck in the shuttle over and over and I had to cut it and re stitch the whole sheath. I'm into mine for about $1600 now. If I was to start over, I'd buy a Cowboy for $2200 or so. I'd have to come up with other things to stitch besides sheaths to justify it though.
