if you had to pick a bullet for the 243 and it had to be 80 grains or less, soft point or hollow point what would be your choice?

I don't know a thing about pelt preservation, but the 70 gr. Ballistic Tip is a nifty bullet.

Mathman suggested the 70 gr nosler BT.
The 55 gr Nosler BT may be perfect for coyote and fox. There usually is little time to figure out trajectory when calling. I got 4050 fps with varget. 1/2" high at 100 will be approx. 3 1/2" low at 300 yds. All you have to do is shoot.

thanks for the suggestion. no ballistic tips for hunting, state law, they just allowed the use of rifle for coyote and fox here and the bullet restrictions are 25 caliber and under, 80 grain or less, and soft point or hollow point only. can't wait to leave this state all their laws make no sense!

Pelt damages is not severe with an 80 grain TTSX. It's great on deer too. Holes are typically nickel to quarter size.

55gr Nosler Varmageddon or 60gr Sierra might work. I don't think you are going to have good luck saving fox pelts with any kind of 243 bullet, though. Wonder if a Ballistic Tip would be considered a soft or hollowpoint under your state's criteria, do they specifically rule out Ballistic Tips? Likely they were just trying to avoid FMJ and did a poor job of writing the law.

Looks like your state doesn't want deer class, loads / bullets used.

New Jersey, i think their intention was to rule out FMJ since rifles have never been able to be used before. They specifically state soft point or hollow point only and even spell out what shotgun shells you can use. GOD I cant wait to leave this place just need to find a job!
