On a factory SA Mtn Rifle.
Not sure which way to go, was hoping some of you might chime in.
I'm more concerned with balance than weight.
Thanks.

Most certainly an Edge for that role.
Now with even more aplomb

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Disagree with Edge because the rifle will become pretty barrel heavy and since balance is more important than weight, I vote for the standard fill. And not the McSwirly as much as I like the colors. The McSwirly stock is slippery. Get the stock painted. Their paint is pebbled and gives a good secure grip. Just my two cents.

It won't be barrel heavy with a mt rifle barrel contour. Buy the Edge. The Edge will actually come closer to matching the factory balance being only 3-4 oz lighter. The standard fill will be about 1/2 lb heavier than factory

I've had more than one of each with the MR contour. Balance really isn't much different with either. They both go right around the front action screw. 243 Mountain Rifle in a Compact....and I can't believe I let that stock go. 260 Mountain Rifle in a McM MR with edge fill.....
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

Edge. No doubt about it. Also a rebarrel with a little heavier contour to put some more weight out front. Also reweld the bolt handle. Also bush the firing pin. Then you'll be good to go!

Since I was the one who commented that the rifle would be barrel heavy I guess I should back off on that. I should never have commented since I don't own a Rem Mtn Rifle. My only Edge is on a long action Model 70 in 6.5 x 55 with a 22 inch barrel. The balance point definitely moved forward with the Edge compared to the wood stock. BUT....I'm pretty much used to it now and I really do appreciate the light weight. I'm NOT going to retract my point about the McSwirly stock being a lot more slippery than the painted stocks. That won't be an issue with the Edge anyway since they're all painted I think. I like the 3 color speckled patterns myself. Those stocks do have checkering but I think the rough pebbled texture of the paint is what makes them less slippery. I'm seriously thinking about having them paint over my pretty red and black McSwirly. Haven't yet been able to bring myself to do that.
