Will subsonic ammo cycle in a semi like the 10/22 or 597?

Some will and some won't. CCI quite is like only 720fps or there abouts and states that it won't cycle in semi autos. But target ammo at around 1000fps will cycle them generally without issue.

Depends on gun and ammo, most of the target type subs running 1050-1080 fps cycled in my rugers. You can re spring it to shoot subs too.

My Rem. 552, designed for S,L,LR, will cycle the CCI Quiet and every other round I've tried in it. As stated, depends on the round and the rifle.

Depends...
Had a 10-22 and could not get it to run any subsonic after the mod's, was for a suppressor so I finally sold it and got another.
Also depends on the subsonic ammo... for instance the old PMC moderator (some of the quietest subsonic ammo around) is too light to consistently run in any of my 10-22's.
Remington subsonic is very inconsistent; some rounds going supersonic & some on the light side.
Kidd sells a lighter bolt spring for subsonic ammo.
There also is a mod you can do that involves tapering the rear of the bolt... which can Improve reliability. I believe it is a sticky over at rimfirecentral in the 10-22 section.

Thanks. You know I remember a spring kit for the 10/22 but it may have been the springs that you use for the short conversion kit.

My 10/22 runs smooth all day with subsonics, and a suppressor. No issues with CcI or Gemtech ammo.

Polish everything on the inside of receiver, Bolt spring is NOT the main spring that retards the bolt. The hammer spring has much more to do with it than the op rod spring. After polishing the parts and cleaning out the inside of the action. If that does not do it radius the back bottom edge of the bolt so that it has an easier time cocking the action. All this will make the action much easier to operate. I do NOT do most of this except cleaning the inside receiver of any over spray and roughness and I do a complete bolt blue print or pay "QUE" at RFC to do my bolt. He is so good and cheap that I stopped doing my own. He also pins the firing pin to keep it from wandering around which hurts ignition and therefore accuracy: You can find him at: https://sites.google.com/site/quesplace/He will tell you it might be a while and then 3 days later he will tell you the bolt is shipped! You can not spend better money to make these things run on Subs. Or for any accuracy improvement. It is an extremely rare 10/22 that will run consistently on CCI Quiet. I shoot them as a straight pull bolt action. The weird part is they will not cycle the action but it is the only round that has caused any of my SuperStock 10/22s to "double". Only happened once but it was a surprise!

I've never heard of any 10-22 that will run CCI "Quiets"!
Been trying all kinds of stuff to get one of my 10-22's to run (semi-auto) using 'Quiets'... since I bought two cases before the ammo crunch! May end up having to shoot them in my bolt gun
Vincent surprised to see you over here... You're usually so active over at rimfirecentral.

Jerry Been a member here for 8 years but I do not post often. I probably belong to 8-90 forums having to do with firearms. RFC will be my "Home" being a Moderator there and so many friends but I see things here I can help people with and learn things from them. I really enjoy helping people when I can.
