How valuable of a tool are these 2 books when it comes to purchasing a vehicle? Are they accurate enough to use when making an offer?
I'm looking at a pickup that is considerably over priced (by at least $5500) compared to the book values i've come up with using the info on the truck from their website.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Just check values online. KBB, Edmunds and NADA estimates are all available online,IIRC.
I usually just get all three, and make my purchasing or selling decisions from some sort of average of all of them.

Did not try Edmunds and yes, I was going to use a middle value of the KBB and NADA to make an offer.

Talk to a banker and see if he will give you the "black book" value. The black book value is the auction cost for the truck. This is the maximum price any dealer would pay for the truck. Offer a little over that price. Same with a trade in. No dealer is going to give you more than he could purchase your car for at an auction. Why you looking at a truck overpriced by nearly $6K and out of state? Too many fish in the barrel to take that one.....
