I have a pair of Steiner 10x26 safari binos i use for bike riding and turkey hunting. I had them in my garage and they fell off a lawn chair and in that short fall the prism cracked or dislodged. I sent them in to Stieners repair facility in Jersey and they charged me 55$ to replace them. I get this new pair back and looked through them today and the alingment is WAAAAAAAAY off that the double vision is mind blowing.
For one, a pair of rubber coated binos should be able to withsatnd a maderate drop. Second, they guys dont even bother to look through the crap they are sending out?? I am pissed. they damn well better send me a call tag for these POS's
I will keep you posted on how they handle this.

I too had a bad experience with Stiener. I posted about it here. They eventually replaced my broken 8X30 with some other model of 8X30 but in their own good time and convience. After that experience I spend my binocular dollars somewhere else. CH

Well... here is my update. I talked the manager into a free upgrade for my troubles. I was sent a pair of 8.5X28 Wildlife as a replacement pair as i requested. Great glass, clear, nice.... Took them out yesterday on a hike and got rained on. Both tubes completely fogged up and one is so bad it has water droplets inside. So, my advice... Stay far away from Steiner compact binos. If the quality control is so bad that not one, but both tubes are not sealed (advertised WATERPFOOF) it makes a guy wonder.

I had a very similar experience with Steiner's so-called customer support. To cut the nasty story short, I switched brands and will never own Steiners again.

Unfortunately, I had a similar bad experience with a pair of Steiner compact binoculars that needed repair (not well made). They charged me quite a bit and sent me a new pair of binocs...I made a mistake of getting a pair of expensive Steiner Night Hunters before having the bad experience with the compact version. So far, these are doing ok. However, having gone through their customer service experience I would not have purchased them. They sure took a long tme in replying and never sent me a status on what was going on with the repair of my compact binoculars. Finally when they did they charged me almost half the price for another pair of binoculars... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I'll be [bleep] and here I thought lenses were an optical cure...AKA glasses/contacts?

A big 10-4 on Steiner sucking ass..........................

With lenses...certainly.

But alas...not all lenses are equal, thus the gross Steiner shortcoming. Not all housing are equal, nor is collimation equal, nor is any other optical attribute.

Steiner is a great way to get bent over, within the World of glass,so you have that going for you...............

Steiners have their place, I have a pair of compacts I keep handy in case the kids go on a field trip or I want to leave them on the dash of the truck unlocked.

I figure the SOB that steals them deserves what he gets. (grin)

Course the kids are getting old enough to be a bit more responsible, especially the older one, he'll be sporting almost brand spanking new Zeiss 10x40's this fall on our moose hunt. The little guy is still squirrely enough he gets the Steiners unless me or big brudda is watching his back.

Of all the things I desire to teach my kids, one of the most expensive I learned on my own was to buy good or great gear and leave the bullchit for someone else, I hope I can save them the frustration and money of learning it the hard way.

Can't remember who, but somebody once commented that Steiner is the Tasco of Europe. Though maybe Tasco has better customer service, especially now that it's owned by Bushnell.

Are you bitching,or bragging?

I'd be inclined to beat all 4 openings shut with a hammer, toss them over a bank and live a little optically.

But some,impress easily........................
