I sold some stuff and have the funds for a new rifle. It is going to be a kimber montana but I can't decide on caliber. I currently have a .308 and .223 in other rifles and the wife has a .257. I am considering everything in the 84m line .223, .243, .257, 7mm08, .308. It will be used for coyote, deer, black bear, and moose if legal (.257 and up here). This will be a woods rifle shots over 100yds are unlikely where I hunt.

I really want them all but would prefer something lighter in recoil. How is the .308 with 130tsx? Might go .257 to share ammo with wife. I will have to get the .223 at some point anyway though.

Start At The [bleep] Start and get something that will actually get USED.

223 Montana by a mile.

It'll get shot more than the whole rest of the herd, bolted together.

Hint.

Thank me later.

If you don't load, I'd go 308 in a heartbeat. Hell, I've come close to dumping my Faux 260 for one. But then I shoot it and that feeling goes away.

The .223 will no doubt get used more. Would you shoot a 200lb black bear with it though? Not sure I would? Anyone tried it?

Ill bet that boxer has pictures to prove that the lowly 223 has been used on more than a few black ones that sized. If I had black bear here I'd use it on one and bet that it's lung soup it cooks up would cause a quick ending.

7/08 would be my choice but with 130 tsx in 308 I don't know 308 might get the nod tough choice but either one would do the job really well..

308

If you feed one already, might as well feed two!

The recoil with 130-150 grain bullets in my .308 montana isn't bad. A little quick and sharp, but not too "hard", if that makes since. I would have rather had a 7-08, but I don't know why.

with the black bear and moose requirements, and close range, I like the biggest bullet I can get. On your list, 308. I would consider a 338 Fed or 358 Win too if they are available.

He hard not to like the 708 running a good 120,140, or 150 with the info given.

I chose 308 just to keep things simple, but 7-08 would be good too. 130 TTSX's run about 3050 fps from mine and recoil is a step below 150's and 165's. That has become my go to load.
