Need a 24" or maybe 40" tripod for an STS. 65 that isn't super expensive. Any advice??

Ball heads suck for spotting scopes.
You spent the money for the scope
don't cheap out on the tripod.

I agree - save for a Slik 624 and a nice pan tilt head of your choice
