The ever looming threat of starvation or having to go the "Poor House" was what made this country great. It built a strong economy. Because even if you had no goddamm legs, you could still get yourself propped up and shuck corn, peel potatoes, hell them people would scoot their ass across the ground and set tobacco plants even tend a garden.

Today, I know of a POS drunk driver dude that is paralyzed waist down from (whisky bottles-brand new cars-oak tree youre in my way)
Yet, he milks disability and doesnt hit a lick at anything. Mfker has a newer full size chevy truck diesel and big bass boat and fishes about 200 days a year and smokes pot like a chimney. Plays on facebook all damn day whining and bitching about his life.

Won't take a job nowhere cause it might mess his benefits and TN-Care healthcare freebee status up.

Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Are you serious? I worked many minimum wages jobs in collage AND GRAD SCHOOL!

Entry level jobs at $8.75 and someone has a problem working at that level? Get a skill or education and then start your career.

There ain't no mystery about this, just like there ain't no mystery about why the average American is deep in debt (Interest rates are set below the inflation rate).

Welfare pays more than work ( http://dailycaller.com/2013/08/20/study-welfare-pays-more-than-work-in-most-states/ ) and in order to bring home $350/week in most places you have to be making $11+/hour.

I was just in McDonalds yesterday having a quick breakfast, one of the 'Managers' was interviewing someone for a job in the next booth.
The interviewee interrupted the process to answer and talk on her cell phone!

I watched 3 people walk out at a medical facility. They were there for a physical for an offshore drilling jobs (LA) and were told to piss in a cup for a drug test. They just handed back the cup and walked out.

I guess smoking pot is more important than working.

OMG! Single people on welfare in Quebec, Canada (with no disabilities) receive $630.00 a month. A lady I know, the same age as me was talking about it at the Doctor's office. I guess she is not impressed as her rent is $425.00 a month. I am not impressed that I pay her rent frown

AMEN!

ALL welfare recipients should be drug tested monthly before their check is mailed!

Scott;
Top of the morning to you Scott, I hope this finds you and yours doing well. How are the pups doing by the way?

Your pee test story is so familiar up here that it makes my head spin.

One of the companies that my wife is financial controller for did a fairly big mine construction contract in the north. The job paid all sorts of bonus money, decent conditions and company to work for and overall was a sweet set up for construction workers by most accounts. I think it was 14 days in and 7 out - something like that. It was a dry work site and all applicants were told that up front.

Not only that Scott, they were given somewhere north of three weeks to "study for the test" as it were. It's amazing how many BC folks can't step away from the bong or crack pipe for that long.

One of my nephew's is married to an RN who does pee testing full time in northern Alberta. From what I hear there it'a amazing anyone ever gets a drop of that environmentally unfriendly tar sands oil.....

Sometimes I do believe I'm glad I don't understand most other folks Scott - but then you already knew that about me.

Have a good weekend Scott and again all the best to you folks.

Dwayne

WTF! I truly believe the vast majority wants a hand out 'cause they sure the hell don't want to work.

Two of them could have been offered jobs, anybody can get sick, I'd give that person another chance, the one who never called or showed up is toast and one never panned out. It seems only one didn't want to work, maybe.

I was going to pay someone to paint the house this summer. The outcome was the same overall picture as your wife had.
Called 1/2 dozen painters to get an estimate. Two showed up drunk shocked (Not had a few drinks --- Very Drunk)
two more never called or showed up. The others showed up several weeks late. mad

I made this observation several times. Able bodied men and women (30 somethings) all camped out on porches during the middle of the day. Laffin, poppin beer cans open, washing their motorcycles, waxing their boats, grillin out with 3 or more homies in the front yard during the middle of the work week.

Yeah, I dont make a whole hell of lot more than these people and I'm puttin in about 50 hours a week at this here worky-job thing I do.

As one person above already posted, you can draw close to 25k or more a year and get food, housing, healthcare, college tuition etc. All most of em do is some "side work" like mowing a few lawns, day laboring under the table, window tinting, selling dope and they can stack 400-500 cash to throw around at de club

I don't hire/fire anymore, but several friends do. It's amazing how many apply, make the top tier, and then decline when an offer is made. Not once have I ever applied for a job I did not intend to accept.

Many of these have been government jobs and one has to restart the hiring process from day one. Might take a year to fill a position that the private sector could handle in two weeks.

It's especially vexing when ones gone through the process, notified the unsuccessful, and 24 hours before the show date they call to say they've accepted another offer. A lady once did that to me for a temp summer job after I'd jumped through the hoops to arrange a rig and housing for her and a couple kids in a remote environment. She ended the call with a comment that maybe she could work with me next summer.

We had one show up drunk for an interview and then call from jail after rolling his rig and getting a DUI at the first junction north of the shop. Wondered if he got the job.

I can not imagine the tolerance it takes to run a big plant now days.
