In the list I looked at, they include FL, KY, AL, TN, LA and MS.

Kentucky isn't a southern state. They were on the union side in the civil war. Missouri isn't a southern state either. Don't be confused by these states having football teams in the SEC. That has everything to with expanding into new TV markets and nothing to do with a states status as "southern".

Furthermore Florida is dominated by transplanted Yankees. Why do you think that in a region were most states vote republican by a 70% to 30% margin Florida often goes for the democrats? Nope, Florida may be geographically southern but culturally it hasn't been for quite some time.

I find it interesting and somewhat sad that several people seem to think that this list is factual. It is the opinion of one man and certainly does not represent any type of quantitative analysis of measurable parameters. It is just some writer giving his opinion.

Exactly. The home state of Detroit doesn't make this list. No California or New York?

I have no doubt that there is plenty of corruption in all the places named on that list. You will find it where any politicians exist. But at least here in the south we don't allow the mafia to openly run entire industries and just accept it as business as usual.

Ask your garbage "man" who he works for.

Also the "good ole' boy" network is indeed a living and breathing mafia. Roads, bridges, hospitals, infrastructure in general. Siegleman and Scrushy are prime examples.

Playing devils advocate here: In La. the mafia went ahead and paid Edwin Edward's bribes for a limited number of casino licenses so they could get the doors open (grinning all the way to the bank). Who won? The mafia. This may be the "dark side" of capitalism but it works.

The sheriff, both of my county commissioners and the game warden know me by first name, lol

I used to crappie fish with the county engineer, got my driveway blacktopped so the school bus could turn around. I allowed that. laugh
I have boarded horses for the general sessions judge, I never lose an eviction case.

I guess I'm "in"

I'm fixing to call the school shortly so my daughter can have a top locker.

My advice: pay your rent on time, don't move around so much and maybe you'll get to know folks that make shjt happen. Or you can sit and whine about how much you wanna move to idaho and live in a ted kucsinski cabin.

Yeah, kinda like Vegas. From a trading post, it grew into what it is today from the vision of Bugsy Siegel and help from Meyer Lansky and crew. People say the Mafia no longer runs the town. I usually ask them this: there is no doubt who started it and who they were. So, on what date did they pull out...?

No one seems to have the date or a real answer to that question.

Some here will claim you're part of the "good ole boy" problem... blush

Sounds OK to me. You have good relationships with your neighbors and neighbors help neighbors... cool

Kentucky was neutral.

But you're correct, for the most part.

Most of Kentucky doesn't have the typical southern culture. Western Kentucky does, however. Culturally, it's much more like Georgia or Alabama than the rest of the state.

Rural Central Kentucky is fairly difficult to categorize. Eastern Kentucky is Appalachia,..which transcends state lines.

Lexington has its own culture. It was populated by fairly wealthy people before the Kentucky state line was established. Louisville is one of the big cities on the Ohio River,...much like St Louis. Covington, Newport, and Florence are part of the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area.

For such a small state, Kentucky has a lot of cultural diversity,..because it's located in the center of quite a few cultural enclaves.

Actually, most of the so - called "Republicans" are former democraps. All the did was try to change their spots. They still think and spend like democraps

That list is just a farce. How MD, DE, NJ, MA, RI, CT, IL, aren't the top 7 is beyond comprehension.

So, uh, I count six...

Throw high school ACT/ SAT scores over that template.

Probably line up nicely....

I don't care how corrupt States are. I am livid about the fact that the Federal Government is stealing from me to support these sorry mutherfukkers.

I absolutely believe Alabama should be on that list. We just got rid of over 150 years of across the board Democrat reign. There were a lot of criminals to put away.

We cleaned house and that's the same as being corrupt.

Good to know.

MA and the likes can keep their criminals in office if they like. I'm cool with that.

Without getting too specific about who and when, I had an acquaintance, an older fellow, who was fairly high up in the local banking industry.

He mentioned that, when the local banking cronies were in Frankfort talking to the Governor about getting some legislation passed which would benefit the banking industry, the Governor would hear them out, then write a price on a piece of paper and slide it across his desk.

That was the cost for the legislation.

This acquaintance told about it to demonstrate how corrupt the Governor was.

But it never seemed to occur to him how corrupt the banking industry was by using the law to benefit the banking industry.

Looking back, I think the Governor was at least as honest as the banking officials who were lobbying him.

The bankers were at the State Capitol to get some law put on the books that would put more money in their pockets.

The Governor was telling them, "Sure,...this is what my cut is going to be".
