Draeb
Before you make your final decision on the 9.3 x 62, please also consider the 9.3 x 64. A little bit more work but maybe well worth it. And finally, you are not all that far away from the .375 Ruger, so consider that as well.

Denigrating this fine old cartridge? Come on, Stick. Sure, the ballistics are not awesome, but sheer bullet weight has its benefits. It's like this: if you think the Partition is the best bullet ever made, you'll love the 9.3x62.

The ballistics suck, the aero form sucks, the diameter isn't nearly enough cushion to compensate those dire short comings.
But it'll buck a smidge and make some noise...................(grin)

I rebarreled one of my Husqvarna Imperials from a .270 Win to a 9.3X62 for my africa trip. Killed stuff from impala to Livingston eland, used 250gr north forks, 9 shots, 9 dead critters. Got home, screwed my .270 barrel back in good to go.

The Whelen is another mid-cal beauty! I'd not mind a Whelen bbl that I could switch on a 270/30-06.

If forced to add more suck to an '06 hull,it'd be 338-06AI...throated for 250 Scenars...............(hint)
