Probably the discontinued Schmidt & Bender. This one (Zeiss) ain't bad, though. Bob Actually, I've found that the older Lymans still work well, too.

I have a IOR 4x that is about 15 years old and I am plenty Impressed with, I used to own a Redfield Illuminator 4x with 56 mm ob. It was big and cumbersome ,but it was bright enough to see bunnies in the brush at way past twilight....

I have a 4X32 Zeiss Diatal-c thinking it would be neat on an Steyr. The cross hairs are too thin except for the range. They are just ok with a 1" tube. For a best scope at 4X I would turn a Kahles 2-7 to 4!

I currently have a Leupold fx, a Nikon Monarch, a Burris Fullfield and a Weaver K. Ya know what? They all still work and quite well.

Leupold would be my first choice
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I've been very impressed with the older and latest Leupolds as well as the now discontinued Bausch & Lomb. The B&L's only faults are it's very thin reticle ande very short eye box. Hard to see the reticle in really bad light. All of these have never changed zero, even when they've hit the ground hard. Simply amazing. I pick up my rifle, certain somthing is broken only to find the scope is fine. E

You folks that have become convinced that you need a scope big enough for training wheels go right ahead. I'll skip the cool aide...

It's not in the finest category, but the current Weaver K-4 is an excellent 4 power and a very good buy. Clear sight-picture, very durable, holds sight- in well, and very well priced at $160 at Graf and Sons.
I've got two and will be getting one more.

Your Zeiss that I shot was pretty sweet.. Yes it is, and you shot the Ruger #1 in 38-55, Zeiss 4X very well with a one shot kill with it. A good rifle with a good scope and shooting an effective cartridge, all used by an excellent hunter, is a pretty effective combination. And it is yours to use again if you want it. Steve

I might bring my own this time Steve, thanks though! I still feel guilt about falling and putting a ding on your minty rifle I may bring a stainless rubber gun for just such occasions!

I have a little 1.5-4x20 Leupold, actual 3.9x max, mounted on a Rem 40X in 308. With that set up, 2" groups of five shots at 300 yards are a regular occurrence. It's a fun toy for dispelling notions.

After a lifetime of hunting the wide open spaces of the western US, I haven't found any occasion where I couldn't take a shot with a 4X. I do tend to favor the 6X scopes for more detail when shooting through holes in cover, and for low light shooting. E

I guess the Leupy VXIII 1.5 x 5 x 20 set at 4 power does not count ...

I've got a Lyman All American Perma Center 4X on a pre-64 M70 270 and an old Weaver 4x on my 35 Whelen. No complainants about either. This group from the M70 270 at 100 yards the same day. Good scope.
